About the Role
We are seeking a Senior or Principal Consultant to join our Transport & Mobility division, specialising in Freight & Logistics with potential flexibility to work from any of our UK offices. This role, which blends hybrid working (in-office and home), is focused on supporting our expanding emphasis on freight and logistics projects across the UK.
Responsibilities
Your key responsibilities will include:

Technology & Project Leads:
- Deliver day-to-day technical transport planning input across freight and logistics initiatives.
- Take on project management and leadership, overseeing projects spanning the following areas:
- Freight policy & strategy – Craft bespoke strategies and evidence-based frameworks for national, regional, and local policymakers.
- Freight infrastructure – Design studies and business cases to enhance key freight routes, lorry parking/amenities, and rail freight terminals.
- Urban freight – Enable efficient last-mile logistics while aligning with safety, highway planning, and public realm goals.
- Logistics planning – Optimise designs for complex environments, such as healthcare centres or major infrastructure projects.
- Freight decarbonisation – Support policymakers and investors in transitioning freight operations to zero-emission vehicles and infrastructure.

Collaboration & Development:
- Carry leadership on small-to-medium-scale projects and collaborate with senior stakeholders on larger, multi-disciplinary schemes.
- Work to broaden your network, develop technical and strategic expertise, and mentor Early Career Professionals while ensuring high-quality project delivery.

Your Team & Impact
Our Freight and Logistics team—small, collaborative, and forward-thinking—exists to reshape the future of freight. From policy to implementation, we:
- Guide public and private sector clients (including DfT, Network Rail, combined authorities, and logistics firms) in building efficient and sustainable systems.
- Address crucial challenges:
- Logistic infrastructure (lorry parks, corridors, terminals, ports)
- Urgent sustainability interventions (last-mile solutions, decarbonisation-driven fleets)
- Holistic strategy (rail-decision frameworks, investment strategies for resilient logistics).
The scope spans entire project lifecycle—concept through execution—with a focus on finding high-impact business solutions for resilient, efficient freight movements.
What We Look For
Candidates should demonstrate:
- Deep sectoral knowledge of freight/logistics and public-sector alignment.
- Technical skills in:
- Data analysis, traffic forecasting, fleet optimisation
- Freight infrastructure design & decarbonisation case.*
- Urban/last-mile logistics and policy frameworks
- Communication expertise—ensuring clarity with clients, stakeholders (internal/external), and senior peers and outstanding reporting skills.
- Practical project management skills, including budgeting, resource allocation, and bidding.
- Proven capability to:
- Mentor, develop, and collaborate with Early Career Professionals.
- Adapt and innovate around emerging transport policies and sustainability goals.
- Lead client presentations, bid submissions, and cross-department/collaborative problem-solving.
