The Opportunity
At Stantec, we're helping water companies transform how they plan, operate and invest in their networks as they respond to the challenges of AMP8 and beyond. We're looking for a Senior Principal Water Network Modeller to join our national team, based in High Wycombe or Reading, where you'll play a strategic leadership role in delivering innovative solutions that improve network resilience, reduce water loss and secure sustainable water supplies for future generations.
As a global leader in wet infrastructure and environmental consulting, we combine world-class engineering expertise with digital innovation to solve some of the industry's most complex challenges. You'll work alongside recognised technical specialists across the UK and internationally, influencing major programmes, shaping technical strategy and supporting the continued growth of one of the country's leading water network modelling teams. This is an opportunity to make a lasting impact—not only through project delivery, but by developing people, strengthening client relationships and driving innovation across the business.
About The Role
As a Senior Principal Water Network Modeller, you will provide strategic and technical leadership across our water network modelling portfolio, ensuring the successful delivery of complex programmes for major UK water companies. You will oversee technical governance, develop innovative modelling methodologies and support the growth of our modelling capability across the business.
Working closely with clients and multidisciplinary teams, you'll lead projects covering network optimisation, live modelling, leakage and pressure management, resilience planning and smart network operations. You'll also play a key role in business development, supporting framework growth, developing long-term client relationships and mentoring technical leaders across the team while helping define the future direction of our modelling services.
YOUR IMPACT
Your leadership will influence how water companies respond to increasing environmental pressures, population growth and the need for resilient, sustainable infrastructure. Through technical excellence and strategic thinking, you'll help shape investment decisions that improve operational performance, reduce leakage and enhance service for millions of customers.
Beyond project delivery, you'll champion innovation by advancing digital modelling capabilities, embedding best practice and developing future technical leaders. Your expertise will strengthen client partnerships, support business growth and reinforce Stantec's reputation as one of the UK's leading consultancies in water network modelling.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
