We’re looking for a Senior Specialist Political Producer to join the ITV News politics team, working in the heart of Westminster, on the biggest political stories.

The successful candidate will work across TV, digital and the Westminster newsdesk, producing the team of political correspondents, as well as driving political content online on behalf of ITV News. You will produce stories from commission to transmission, delivering the best news lines, elements and treatments. You will regularly news edit, driving the day and leading the team, you will commission and publish content online from the team, and write stories, edit and publish video. This is a dynamic and varied role for a talented multi-platform journalist.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Tell political stories across TV, digital and streaming platforms
  • Work with the team of political correspondents including the Political Editor to produce packages of the highest quality
  • Produce stories from commission to transmission, delivering the best news lines, elements and treatments
  • Write and produce innovative and accurate graphics
  • Pitch and deliver coverage ideas in Westminster and beyond, reflecting communities across the nations and regions
  • Confident working in the field with knowledge of relevant technology
  • Managing competing demands on multiple stories with different deadlines
  • Basic editing of material for different platforms
  • News Edit when required - demonstrating strong editorial judgement and leadership skills
  • Demonstrate distinctive judgement about digital storytelling – with confidence about what elements will resonate with an online audience and what will perform on different platforms
  • Generate ideas for stories and multimedia coverage, as well as write original headlines for social media and the website
  • Ensure stories are accurate, comply with the law and relevant regulations, and work in accordance with ITN guidelines on health and safety in the office and in the field
  • As well as written articles, work on video and audio content, ensuring maximum impact for ITV News content across multiple platforms
  • Commission the political team to produce their own analysis and blogs, and publish these on behalf of colleagues

Key Requirements:

  • In-depth knowledge of the political news agenda
  • Good level of political contacts
  • Excellent research skills
  • Creative thinker with original ideas for stories and treatments across platforms and a track record of delivering exclusive journalism
  • Experience of owning a story from commission through to broadcast and publication
  • A proven ability to conduct news-making interviews
  • Knowledge of news editing
  • Calm under pressure in all environments and capable of working to tight deadlines
  • Proven ability to generate engaging written copy, written under pressure
  • Confidence working across all platforms, including audio
  • Confidence to travel at short notice and operate under pressure
  • An ability to break down complex policy announcements into relatable content for a mass audience
  • Experience of AVID Newscutter, Adobe Premiere, plus other media technology
  • Work to the highest standards of spelling, punctuation and grammar
  • Good knowledge of Ofcom guidelines and an understanding of legal and ethical issues journalism
  • Work in accordance with ITN Health and Safety and Compliance guidelines
