Senior Product Designer
Department: PED
Employment Type: Full Time
Location: Remote
Description
Position overview
We're hiring a Senior Product Designer to help us bring design in-house and raise the craft bar across our product. We're building a dedicated, in-house design function embedded directly in our product teams, and you'll be one of the first designers to shape it. This is a rare opportunity to own the design of the surfaces where 70 million members take action, and to define how design works at Avaaz for the long term.
You'll design across our highest-impact member surfaces: campaign and petition pages, donation and fundraising flows, post-action and share experiences, and our homepage, with a specific emphasis on mobile-first experiences. You’ll collaborate as a strategic partner to PMs, engineers, and campaign colleagues, driving the process from initial discovery through to implementation, QA, and post-launch measurement. Alongside that hands-on work, you'll help establish the design system, the design rituals, and the shared standards that let quality scale as the team grows.
Our members trust us with their voices, their data, and their donations, often in moments that matter enormously. At Avaaz, we believe that exceptional design serves as a powerful tool to convert member engagement into meaningful global change.
Responsibilities
- Lead innovative design across our highest-impact member surfaces.
- Own and evolve our design system.
- Help build the in-house design practice.
- Partner closely with PMs and engineers.
- Ground design in member research and evidence.
- Design for a global, multilingual membership.
- Partner with campaigners and fundraisers.
- Raise the craft bar and a shared design vocabulary.
- Help shape the long-term product and design vision.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Qualifications
Required
- Significant experience as a senior product designer shipping consumer- or member-facing digital products end to end, from problem framing through to launch
- A strong portfolio demonstrating excellence across both UX and UI: interaction design, visual design, and prototyping
- Expert command of Figma and modern design and prototyping workflows. Bonus if you have familiarity with leveraging AI in your workflows.
- Experience building or meaningfully contributing to a design system or component library
- Comfortable working embedded with product managers and engineers in an agile environment; you collaborate on implementation rather than handing off and walking away
- You ground your work in user research, usability testing, and data; you can say when a design is working and when it isn't
- A clear, confident communicator who can present and defend design decisions to senior stakeholders and explain design thinking to non-designers
- Self-directed and comfortable building structure where little exists; you're energized, not daunted, by being early
Nice to have
- Experience in non-profit, campaigning, activism, journalism, or another mission-driven context
- Experience designing high-converting donation, checkout, or growth flows
- Experience designing for multilingual, right-to-left, or highly accessible products at scale
- Enough familiarity with front-end constraints (HTML/CSS, component-based frameworks) to collaborate closely with engineers
What Success Looks Like
First 90 days
- You've built relationships across the product pods and with the campaigns and fundraising teams, gotten hands-on with our highest-impact surfaces (donations and key campaign templates), and built a clear picture of the current state of the design system and the work transitioning in from our external agency.

Your very own career expert that helps elevate your application to the next level.
First 6 months
- You're consistently shipping high-quality design within your pod. The design system has a clear owner and is being consolidated and extended. The transition away from external design is well underway, and PMs, engineers, and campaigners know how to work with in-house design.
First year
- Design is fully in-house and embedded across the team. A coherent, accessible design system underpins the platform, design is a strategic partner in product decisions from discovery onward, and members experience a more consistent, effective, and modern product.
