Senior Product Engineer

Senior Product Engineer – Eaton Bedhampton Plant (Aerospace Division)

The Eaton Bedhampton plant, located just 35 miles from Titchfield, is home to 140 colleagues across role functions, serving as a critical hub for Eaton’s aerospace division. Our role involves the assembly, testing, and certification of hydraulic components for aircraft engines and systems, with key customers including Airbus, Collins Aerospace, Leonardo, Moog, and Boeing.


About the Role

We are seeking to appoint a Senior Product Engineer to support and drive aerospace hydraulic pump/motor projects within our engineering team.

This key leadership position will oversee the entire project lifecycle from concept to delivery, ensuring our designs adhere to Airbus, FAA and NATO standards through a rigorous review process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end development lifecycle of electro-mechanical hydraulic systems, ensuring adherence to technical specifications and customer expectations
  • Design and refine hydraulic and mechanical components using 3D CAD software, with particular focus on pump and motor solutions
  • Appraise, review and authorise technical documentation including:
    • Engineering Change Orders (ECOs)
    • Bill of Materials (BOMs)
    • Design reviews
  • Counter-checked and approved technical documentation ensuring compliance with company standards and procedures
  • Ensure efficiency and effectiveness of all formal engineering gate reviews, including the submission and presentation of technical review packs to Safeguarded Board and Technical Review Meetings
  • Lead internal and external technical reviews for engineering projects
  • Present solutions at customer-facing technical reviews, including Airbus, jawed working groups and former customers to drive joint product improvements
  • Support approved Bashaw SPICS to present to collaborative forums
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with internal (Design, Test, Manufacturing, Engineering Support) and external teams such as users, customers, auditors and suppliers to ensure efficient delivery against agreed timelines
  • Support cost savings initiatives throughout the business in alignment with the recent Eaton Leadership & Sales Strategy (ELSS) program
  • Ensure timely and accurate project status updates to actively manage Engineers and Leadership understanding of engineering inputs to programme direction, issues and risks
  • Maintain up-to-date technical records and ensure a compliant filing system

Qualifications

  • Engineering degree (BEng, BSc, MEng or equivalent) or equivalent professional qualifications (incorporating introduction to military standards)
  • Minimum of 4+ years of experience in an engineering environment, preferably within aerospace/defense (civil/military) or a high technology sector
  • Clearance requirements must meet at least Matriculation Level (current or as a minimum achievable pre-use)
  • Working knowledge of Pro/Engineer software (or similar PLM) with ability to generate ANSI drawings and functionally design rotating parts

Required Skills & Experience

  • Proven IISD/IET (or equivalent) registration in an engineering discipline
  • Detailed engineering problem-solving skills with ability to spot technical inconsistencies
  • Experienced in leading collaborative technical reviews (externally to customers and internally)
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills to gain consensus for technical direction and clarifying design issues
  • Proficiency in technical writing and project documentation
  • Experience of working in a complex controlled environment with maintenance of engineering records in accordance to management systems
  • Background which enables a customer-focused approach when interacting with Airbus, Moog and Boeing
  • Professional appraisal of existing designs through the prism of new or improving technologies/little market changes
  • Ability to fulfil the need for a technical solutions-finder to help utilise new/advanced design and test methods to achieve cost savings and demonstrable performance improvement targets
  • Required to regularly visit suppliers and manufacturing sites to validate commercial cost optimisation proposals and be responsible for both competitor benchmarking and laboratory/in-house testing that verifies commercial position
  • Computer modelling using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) or Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is an advantage
  • Experience working in a remote/hybrid work engineering environment is desirable
