Senior Product Manager, FinOps Products – Onyx Research Data Tech
About the Role
The Onyx Research Data Tech organization is a major investment by GSK R&D and Digital & Tech, designed to deliver a step-change in leveraging data, knowledge, and prediction to advance medicines discovery. As a full-stack data organization, we comprise product management, data engineering, infrastructure & DevOps, data/metadata/knowledge platforms, and AI/ML & analysis platforms, all focused on:
- Building a next-generation data experience for GSK’s scientists, engineers, and decision-makers, reducing time spent on "data mechanics" and increasing productivity.
- Providing best-in-class AI/ML and data analysis environments to accelerate predictive capabilities and attract top-tier talent.
- Engineering data at scale to unlock real-time value from our combined data assets and predictive models.
Purpose of Onyx: Product Management
The Product Management team sits at the heart of Onyx’s mission, ensuring that infrastructure, platforms, and end-user-facing data assets are designed to maximize impact on R&D. The team partners with R&D stakeholders and Onyx leadership to develop a strategic roadmap for:
- Data assets
- Ontology
- Knowledge Graph / semantic search
- Data/computing/analysis platforms
- Data-powered applications
The Role: Senior Product Manager for FinOps Products
We are seeking an experienced Senior Product Manager accountable for designing and delivering the roadmap for FinOps across all Onyx cloud platforms, products, and services.
As the Senior Product Manager for FinOps, you will play a critical role in optimizing cloud spend and enhancing financial transparency across the organization. In collaboration with senior product leaders, engineering, finance, R&D leaders, and cloud operations teams, you will drive the development and delivery of products and features that empower teams—including engineers, developers, scientists, and finance stakeholders—to effectively manage, forecast, and optimize cloud costs.
This opportunity is ideal for a product professional passionate about cloud economics, with a drive to build scalable solutions that promote financial accountability and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Product Feature Ownership
- Own the full product lifecycle for specific features or components within the FinOps product suite, including:
- Ideation & requirements gathering
- Launch, adoption, and iteration
- Ensure alignment with business goals and user needs throughout development.

Cloud Cost Visibility
- Drive the development of tools and dashboards that provide:
- Clear, accurate, and granular visibility into cloud spending across Onyx platforms.
- Insights into consumption patterns, enabling teams to track and understand their cloud investments.
Cost Optimization Enablement
- Identify and deliver capabilities that empower teams to:
- Make cost-efficient infrastructure choices.
- Right-size resources (e.g., reducing unnecessary spend).
- Manage reserved instances/savings plans effectively.
- Identify underutilized or idle resources.
Financial Governance Support
- Support the implementation and monitoring of:
- Budget alerts & spend limits.
- Chargeback/showback mechanisms.
- Guardrails for cloud financial accountability.
User Research & Requirements
- Conduct in-depth user research with:
- Engineers, developers, data scientists.
- Finance teams.
- Translate insights into detailed product requirements and user stories.
Data Analysis & Reporting
- Analyze cloud billing data to:
- Spot spending trends.
- Identify cost anomalies.
- Support insight-driven financial reporting & forecasting.
Agile Product Development
- Actively participate in an agile environment, collaborating with:
- Engineering, UX, and QA teams.
- Ensuring timely delivery of high-quality releases.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with:
- Cloud Platform Engineering.
- Data Platform Engineering.
- Finance & R&D teams.
- Ensure features meet business needs, integrate seamlessly, and drive financial outcomes.
Documentation & Training
- Develop:
- Clear product documentation.
- User guides.
- Training materials to facilitate adoption and maximize tool utilization.
Requirements & Qualifications
Required:
- Degree (Bachelor’s) in:
- Technical or scientific fields (e.g., computational science, engineering, finance, business).
- Experience in:
- Product management or FinOps/cloud financial management.
- Taking a product from concept to launch, including:
- Defining scope.
- Aligning stakeholders.
- Delivering an initial version to users.
- Strong understanding of:
- Cloud billing models & cost drivers (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure).
- Experience with:
- Data analysis and reporting tools (e.g., SQL, BI platforms).
- Familiarity with agile methodologies.

Preferred:
- Degree (Master’s) or MBA.
- FinOps Certified Practitioner (FOCP).
- Direct FinOps experience, including:
- Working with platforms like CloudHealth, Cloudability, or native cloud tools.
- Experience with:
- Multi-cloud or large-scale enterprise environments.
- Deep understanding of enterprise financial processes, including:
- Budgeting, forecasting, cost allocation.
- Communications & stakeholder management skills to:
- Translate technical/financial concepts for diverse audiences.
- Biopharma/industry experience, particularly in:
- Medical research, data-heavy environments.
- Ambition to thrive in a global, scalable organization.
