Senior Product Manager, Payments

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Product Manager, Payments based in the United Kingdom.

This role offers the opportunity to lead product strategy and execution for large-scale payment experiences used by merchants and shoppers worldwide.

You will own a key area within a payments ecosystem where reliability, trust, and seamless user experiences are critical.

Working closely with engineering, design, support, and strategic partners, you will transform complex challenges into impactful product solutions.

The position combines strategic thinking with hands-on execution, requiring strong ownership from discovery through delivery.

Your decisions will directly influence revenue growth, conversion rates, merchant satisfaction, and the overall quality of payment experiences.

You will thrive in a distributed, collaborative environment where clear communication, autonomy, and product excellence are highly valued.

Accountabilities:

  • The Senior Product Manager, Payments will take ownership of a defined product area, driving strategy, prioritization, and execution while collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable and scalable payment solutions.
  • Define and execute product direction for a key payments area, establishing priorities, goals, success metrics, and measurable outcomes.
  • Improve merchant and shopper experiences across critical payment journeys, including onboarding, checkout, refunds, disputes, payouts, reporting, and platform reliability.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce friction, improve product quality, lower support demand, and increase user trust through continuous optimization.
  • Use data insights, customer feedback, support trends, and business signals to determine priorities and make informed product decisions.
  • Collaborate with payment partners to improve integrations, manage dependencies, deliver enhancements, and resolve technical or operational challenges.
  • Work closely with engineering and design teams on complex product problems, balancing user needs, technical constraints, and business objectives.
  • Maintain strong stakeholder alignment through clear documentation, communication of progress, risk management, and transparent decision-making.
  • Create and refine product documentation, including requirements, briefs, workflows, and technical discussions, while supporting execution throughout the product lifecycle.

Requirements:

  • The ideal candidate is an experienced product leader with strong payments expertise, excellent product judgment, and the ability to operate effectively in complex, distributed environments.
  • 7+ years of experience in product management, including senior individual contributor experience owning complex products or problem areas.
  • 4+ years of experience working in payments, fintech, or related financial technology environments, ideally with products operating at significant scale.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional initiatives through strong communication, prioritization, and execution skills.
  • Strong product sense and the ability to make effective decisions in ambiguous situations without needing complete information.
  • Experience working on high-trust, mission-critical systems where reliability and user confidence are essential.
  • Ability to collaborate deeply with engineers and designers, understanding technical challenges and making thoughtful product tradeoffs.
  • Strong analytical mindset with experience using metrics, dashboards, experimentation, and data insights to guide decisions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, especially in remote and asynchronous work environments.
  • Familiarity with open-source ecosystems, commerce platforms, or related technologies is considered a plus.
