About the Role
At Babcock, we deliver solutions that advance safety, security, and global capability. As a Senior Product Safety Engineer, you’ll take on a pivotal role in ensuring the safety and compliance of our mission-critical systems, supporting both UK Defence and export customers.
This position spans tactical communications, strategic communications, weapon handling & launching systems, and more—requiring expertise across complex system lifecycles.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct safety assessments and risk analyses for systems and subsystems.
- Offer expert guidance on safety engineering processes, ensuring compliance with statutory, regulatory, and industry standards (e.g., DEF STAN 00-56).
- Integrate safety into system design and development, including participation in design reviews, audits, and safety working groups.
- Liaise with internal/external stakeholders (including MOD clients) to define and meet safety requirements.
- Develop and maintain Safety Case Reports, including Hazard Analysis and Functional Failure Analysis.
- Foster a detailed understanding of hazard evaluation and safety assessment methodologies.

This role operates on 37 hours/week, with flexible homeworking and regular site visits across the UK.
Essential Experience
- Familiarity with safety standards, Defence standards, and legislation.
- Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with ability to engage stakeholders effectively.
- 10+ years of experience in safety engineering within high-integrity environments (e.g., Defence, Aerospace, Rail, or Nuclear).
Qualifications
- Degree in Engineering or a relevant technical discipline.
Security Requirements
- Must be a sole UK national.
- Able to achieve and maintain a Basic Security Check (SC) clearance.
- Application of Trade Control restrictions may apply; check eligibility at UK Security Vetting.
