Senior Programme Manager
We’re looking for an experienced Senior Programme Manager to join our Selborne account, leading the delivery of complex, high‑impact programmes that directly support specialist training for our defence client.
You will be responsible for ensuring programme outcomes are delivered to time, cost and quality, aligned to Capita’s strategic objectives and the wider needs of the Royal Navy.
This role operates within a fast‑paced, regulated environment, demanding exceptional leadership, stakeholder engagement and governance discipline. While predominantly home‑based, it includes regular travel—typically once a week or once a fortnight—to Royal Navy sites in Portsmouth and Glasgow, which is an essential part of the role.
This is a Full-time role, 37.5 hours a week – Fixed Term until March 2027
Due to the nature of this role, you must be eligible for UK Security Clearance at SC level.

Job Description
Programme Leadership & Delivery
- Leading and managing large, complex programmes, ensuring successful delivery against agreed objectives and performance indicators.
- Developing and maintaining integrated programme plans, ensuring alignment with strategic goals.
- Driving delivery excellence across multiple workstreams in a defence training environment.
Governance, Quality & Controls
- Monitoring programme progress, identifying risks, issues and dependencies, and implementing effective mitigation strategies.
- Ensuring all deliverables meet required quality standards and contractual expectations.
- Reporting regular progress updates to senior leadership and client stakeholders.
Stakeholder Management & Client Engagement
- Building strong, trusted relationships with senior internal and external stakeholders.
- Acting as a primary interface with the Royal Navy client, ensuring expectations are clearly understood and effectively managed.
- Communicating programme status, risks and decisions in a clear, concise manner.

Team Leadership
- Leading, coaching and developing project teams to maintain high performance and capability.
- Ensuring appropriate resources, skills and support are in place to meet delivery requirements.
Defence‑Specific Delivery
- Coordinating with approved third‑party suppliers involved in delivering defence‑related training solutions (generalised for advert purposes).
- Supporting the delivery of advanced training technologies—including virtual simulation environments—used by Royal Navy personnel (discussed internally, not included in promotional language).
Essential
What we’re looking for
- Significant Senior Programme Management experience, ideally 5+ years at senior level within complex programmes.
- Demonstrated ability to lead multi‑disciplinary teams in structured, fast‑paced environments.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to engage senior decision‑makers.
- Practical knowledge of PM methodologies (Agile, PRINCE2, MSP, PMP).
- Ability to work with sensitive information and meet security clearance requirements.
- Willingness and ability to travel regularly to Royal Navy sites
Desirable
- Background in defence, government, or similarly complex regulated sectors (highly advantageous).
