The ‘Wellcome Trust Removing Barriers to Fungal Bioimaging for the Global Medical Mycology Community’ project is a follow-up from the previous ‘Wellcome Trust Reducing Barriers To Bioimaging Phase 1’ project that is establishing a global network and infrastructure that will enable researchers to develop bioimaging tools to visualize the fundamental biology of microscopic fungal pathogens, and to provide training for researchers at the forefront of these diseases. The Mycology Bioimaging Initiative will also focus on fungal species identified by the World Health Organization as Priority Pathogens. The team brings together experts from the MRC Centre for Medical Mycology (MRC CMM) at the University of Exeter and the CMM AFRICA Unit at the University of Cape Town, as well as from the University of Edinburgh.
The post aims to provide specific project co-ordination and national and international workshop organization and management across the three sites; Exeter, Cape Town and Edinburgh. The post will act as the primary point of contact for the global fungal bioimaging community while working closely with the Project Lead in Exeter plus the Co-Leads at Cape Town and Edinburgh, as well as with project staff and researchers employed on the grant. You will also liaise and work collaboratively with the CMM AFRICA Unit’s staff in order to organize and run project activities.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
