About the Role

We are supporting a growing power and energy infrastructure business constructing its delivery capability across a portfolio of major projects, including:

  • High-/medium-voltage (HV/MV) substations
  • Grid connections
  • Associated power infrastructure

The business seeks a *senior Project Director / Delivery Director to provide leadership across project delivery, shape the delivery organisation, and support the execution of complex power infrastructure projects.

This is an opportunity to become one of the first senior delivery leaders in a growing platform, with responsibility for establishing the operating model, team structure, governance, and delivery approach to support scalability.


The Role

The Project Director / Delivery Director will:

  • Lead the mobilisation and delivery of major power infrastructure projects in partnership with the founders and senior leadership team
  • Translate the company’s project pipeline into a structured, deliverable programme
  • Bring structure, discipline, and delivery confidence to a complex, multi-project environment
  • Build the wider project delivery organisation as the business grows

This person will provide:

  • Technical credibility

to support the company's next stage of development.


Key Responsibilities

  • Project Leadership & Ownership

    • Mobilise and deliver major initiatives in areas such as HV/MV substations and grid connections
    • Lead programme performance, delivery strategy, project governance, and reporting
  • Coordination & Interface Management

    • Oversee engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover workstreams
    • Manage stakeholder relationships with clients, contractors, suppliers, and external delivery partners

  • Team Development & Operations

    • Build and lead multidisciplinary project delivery teams, including:
      • Project management
      • Engineering & planning
      • Commercial & HSEQ (health, safety, environment, quality)
      • BIM (building information modelling) and documentation capabilities
    • Establish project controls, governance, and reporting rhythms
  • Technical & Commercial Oversight

    • Coordinate HV/MV engineering, civil activities, MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing) interfaces, equipment supply, testing, and commissioning
    • Work closely with commercial, procurement, and finance teams to manage:
      • Costs, supplier commitments, payments, and milestones
      • Contractual exposure, claims, and risk management
  • Strategic System Development

    • Support the creation of scalable delivery systems and operating procedures
    • Ensure project paths, risk management, and issue resolution are robust
  • Representation & Stakeholder Engagement

    • Provide senior leadership and technical credibility to clients, partners, suppliers, and investors

Candidate Profile

Essential Requirements

  • Proven expertise in delivering major substation, grid-connection, transmission, or high-voltage infrastructure projects
  • Experience within an EPC (Engineer-Procure-Construct), EPCM (Engineer-Procure-Construct-Manage), principal contractor, or design-and-build environment
  • Strong technical knowledge of:
    • HV/MV substations (132kV / MV distribution schemes, transformers, GIS, MV switchgear, protection, controls, civils)
    • MEP interfaces, commissioning, and energisation processes
  • Proven ability to:
    • Lead multidisciplinary project teams and external delivery partners
    • Execute programme management and project controls
  • Strong comprehension of:
    • Commercial risk management
    • Contractual relationships (variations, claims, supplier performance, cost control)
  • Experience managing senior stakeholder relationships with:
    • Clients
    • Contractors
    • Suppliers
  • A hands-on, accountable leadership approach with a structural delivery mindset

  • Ideally based in the South East (UK)

Desirable Experience

  1. Experience with:
    • 132kV, 275kV, or 400kV substation projects
    • Projects involving mission-critical power, data-centres, BESS (battery energy storage systems), or renewable-grid connections
    • Groundbreaking transformer, GIS, MV switchgear, and protection packages
  2. Contractual experience with NEC, FIDIC, or similar frameworks
  3. Experience in building or scaling a project delivery organisation
