Great journeys happen at London Gatwick. Where will your career take you?
The buzz, the energy, the sheer magic of travel… you can feel it in the air all around you. Here, you'll be part of an energetic team and a vibrant community. We can help you thrive in a career that's a world away from the everyday.
This role takes an office first hybrid approach here at London Gatwick, with three days a week in the office, two days remote, managed around the needs of the business.
What is the role?
As a Senior Project Engineer (Major Projects) at London Gatwick, you'll be instrumental in leading the design of strategically important, major building projects, typically exceeding £100 million in value. You won't just be managing significant multi-discipline projects; you'll be shaping the future of the world's most efficient single runway airport. London Gatwick is a place where ambition meets opportunity.
You'll have the opportunity to work on the full project lifecycle. Making sure designs meet the project needs and getting the best value for the money spent. You'll work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders up to board level and external design consultants, making sure everything runs smoothly, keeping the project on track, and within the budget.
What will you do?
Reporting to the Design Manager, you will play a key role in the team, responsible for owning the end-to-end design process from the start of the project to its completion. This includes overseeing smaller projects as required:
- Developing project scope to meet the business needs, along with delivering effective design management on individual projects.
- Working with multiple stakeholders to support the successful delivery of projects.
- Seeking cost effective design solutions and managing external design consultants.
- Providing technical input to any design changes through the lifecycle of the project.
- Leading any assigned Design Management resources and fulfilling a supervisory role for Project Engineers within the broader programme team.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
