The Role
Job Title: Senior Engineer – Materials Division Location: UKAEA Culham, Oxfordshire Grade: Grade G Salary: £57,117 (inclusive of Specialist Allowance) Hours: Onsite, 5 days per week
As part of the Materials Division, you will contribute to UKAEA’s fusion research programme by delivering materials engineering projects. Your work may involve collaboration with universities, industrial partners, and overseas organisations.
Responsibilities
You will be responsible for:
- Leading and coordinating multidisciplinary engineering projects (short- and long-term), managing procurement, scope, funding, resources, and delivery across mechanical, electrical, electronic, and integrated engineering.
- Producing high-quality technical reports, presentations, user documentation, TDMS documentation, and UKCA-certification compliance outputs for approval and certification.
- Managing a small team of engineers, providing technical leadership, resource allocation, and coordinated recruitment.
- Ensuring compliance with UKAEA’s engineering standards and supporting engineering governance via legal/quality documentation and Design Standards (D-SDS) development.
- Representing UKAEA at internal/external meetings, technical forums, and national/international events, possibly deputising for the MRF Lead Engineer on administrative and technical matters.

Qualifications
Essential:
- Demonstrable engineering experience in project-oriented environments.
- A degree (or equivalent) in engineering, ideally electrical/C&I/electronics (applications from experienced mechanical engineering backgrounds also welcomed).
- Strong ability to articulate complex technical information to both specialist and non-specialist audiences.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or clear progress towards achieving it.
Desirable:
- Specific experience in electrical/C&I engineering design.
- Experience with design standards for CE/UKCA certification.
