Location: Bournemouth
We are recruiting for a Senior Project Engineer / Senior Contracts Engineer on behalf of a leading organisation within the Water and Wastewater sector. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineering professional to support the successful delivery of complex design and construction projects, managing technical coordination, programme delivery, commercial performance and Health & Safety from project inception through to completion.
The Senior Project Engineer / Senior Contracts Engineer Role
Reporting to the Project Manager, you will be responsible for managing the design, construction, commissioning and handover of engineering projects. You will play a key role in coordinating project teams, managing programmes, supporting commercial activities and driving innovation while ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, manage and update construction programmes to ensure key project milestones are achieved
- Arrange, chair and participate in collaborative planning meetings with project stakeholders
- Prepare and issue invitations to tender, evaluate submissions and provide recommendations for contract award
- Prepare and issue procurement requisitions to support project delivery
- Coordinate technical activities between engineering teams and supply chain partners
- Manage the day-to-day activities of the site management team, resolving or escalating issues where required
- Review supplier invoices, identifying discrepancies before payment approval
- Promote innovation and continuous improvement to enhance safety, efficiency and commercial performance
- Manage and maintain project risk registers, providing regular updates and supporting early warning processes
- Attend Health & Safety, progress, coordination and employee forum meetings as required
- Support the reporting and investigation of near misses, unsafe conditions, incidents and accidents
- Prepare project pre-start documentation and upload project records to company systems
- Work closely with Quantity Surveyors to develop cost plans, monitor project expenditure and report cost variations
- Lead and coordinate design liaison meetings throughout project delivery
- Ensure compliance with all Health & Safety legislation, company procedures and CDM regulations

About You
- Experienced in the delivery of engineering or construction projects
- Strong organisational and programme management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Excellent communication skills with experience building strong client and stakeholder relationships
- Commercially aware with the ability to identify project risks and opportunities
- Delivery focused with experience monitoring project programmes and achieving key milestones
- Strong understanding of Health & Safety legislation and CDM 2015 regulations
- Able to work collaboratively across engineering, commercial and operational teams
Experience & Qualifications
- Degree (or equivalent) in Construction, Civil Engineering or a related discipline
- Proven Project Management experience within engineering or construction environments
- Experience delivering projects under NEC3 contracts
- Understanding of Health & Safety legislation, including CDM 2015
- Experience delivering engineering projects from design through to completion

Desirable
- Chartered Engineer (or working towards Chartered status)
- Water industry experience, particularly within non-infrastructure projects
- Experience using Primavera P6 planning software
- APMP qualification (or equivalent)
