Senior Project Managers (Offshore & Substation Delivery) – Transmission Projects
Base Location: Inverness, Aberdeen, Glasgow, or Perth (Relocation to North of Scotland/Western Isles open for discussion)
Role Overview
SSEN Transmission is seeking two Senior Project Managers to join its Offshore Delivery Team, delivering £500m+ substation packages (400kV & 132kV) as part of the Lewis & Netherton Hubs, under SSE’s Pathway to 2030 Programme.
- Location: Hybrid working (on-site 2-4 days/week for Netherton Hub, 2nd-week rotations for Lewis Hub)
- Contract: Permanent, Full-Time, with Flexible First options
- Salary: £58,100 – £87,100 + car/allowance, performance-related bonus, and comprehensive benefits
Key Responsibilities
You will lead the delivery of substation mega-projects while managing a multi-disciplinary team and framework supply chain partners (ASTI framework). Your role includes:
- Project Leadership:
- Deliver £500m+ substation construction across the Lewis & Netherton Hubs.
- Oversee a team of Project Managers/Assistant Project Managers and escalate contractor issues.
- Ensure projects comply with regulatory requirements while championing SSE’s Safety Golden Rules.

Technical & Contractual Expertise:
- Manage NEC3 contracts, interface coordination, and change control to optimise commercial outcomes.
- Provide strong leadership on programme, budget, and cost forecasting.

Stakeholder & Team Management:
- Engage internal/external stakeholders including supply chain partners from ECI to commissioning.
- Promote SSE’s core values (safety, innovation, sustainability) and cultivate high-performing teams.
Essential Requirements
Experience
- Proven track record managing £50m+ multi-disciplinary projects, preferably in AC substation construction.
- Strong construction delivery expertise in in excess of £50m packages, with experience in large-scale procurement/operations.
- NEC3 contract management (preferable) and ability to forecast/commercialise programme/models.
Technical & Regulatory Knowledge
- In-depth understanding of Construction (Design & Management) Regulations (CDM 2015), Health & Safety at Work Act (1974), and environmental legislation.
- Expertise in governance frameworks and project management systems.
Qualifications
- Engineering, construction, or project management degree (or equivalent professional experience).
