Job Description: Senior Project Manager
If you are looking to broaden your industry experience and progress your career within project management, our Midlands team are seeking experienced Project Managers looking to develop their career into a senior position. Working on a range of industry-leading infrastructure projects, we will support you in finding the right role within transportation, utilities, and highways within our client base.
Main Purpose of the Role
- To lead Project Management Commissions, taking responsibility for end-to-end service delivery, often with respect to large or complex projects.
- To act as the key, day-to-day client interface, ensuring that client objectives are met and that projects are delivered to time, cost targets, and appropriate quality standards.
Scope
- Senior Project Managers handle commissions of varying sizes, depending upon the complexity of the project.
- Typically, projects fall within the £10M to £25M range. Where the service is advisory (e.g., advising on urban regeneration funding), the overall project size may be much larger.

Key Accountabilities
Core Project Management Responsibilities
- Advising at a strategic level at the project inception stage, including providing advice on different approaches to successfully achieve the client’s overall objectives.
- Preparing and maintaining definitions of project requirements.
- Helping to establish overall success criteria for the project, including time, cost, technical, and performance parameters.
- Establishing effective project governance, processes, and systems throughout the project lifecycle.
- Preparing and maintaining schedules of activities, including master project planning.
- Managing the development of the project in accordance with approved plans and targets.
- Developing and implementing resource plans and procurement strategies.
- Leading and facilitating the overall cross-functional project team.
- Monitoring and applying performance management techniques, including use of KPIs to improve project performance.
- Managing the change control process.
- Developing and agreeing budgets, controlling forecast vs. actual costs.
- Managing the flow of project information between the team and client (through regular meetings and written communications).
- Identifying and monitoring project risks, informing risk mitigations.
- Preparing formal project progress reports and other communications.
- Taking a leading role in interfacing with the client, other consultants, and managing stakeholders across project stages.
- Advising the client regarding Health & Safety and Environmental issues and risks.
- Planning for and ongoing management of quality, safety, health, and environmental (QSHE) standards.
Key Performance Indicators
A Senior Project Manager will be judged by their ability to:
- Deliver projects to the right quality standards, on time and budget.
- Ensure project delivery meets the client’s objectives and aligns with the conditions of appointment.
- Lead the project team effectively.
- Build and maintain strong client and cross-functional team relationships.
- Discharge general line management responsibilities (where appropriate).
- Identify and act upon business development opportunities with both existing and new clients (e.g., cross-selling).
- Monitor the internal financial status of all projects.
- Cascade key information and share knowledge appropriately.

Qualifications & Experience
Ideal Candidates Will:
- Hold a degree (preferably in Civil Engineering).
- Have experience on large-scale projects (over £100M).
- Be charged/qualified with ICE, APM, RICS, or equivalent professional bodies.
