Senior Project Manager (Midlands) - Infrastructure
Job Description
If you are looking to broaden your industry experience and progress your career within project management, our Midlands team are seeking experienced Project Managers looking to develop their career into a senior position. Working on a range of industry-leading infrastructure projects, we will support you in finding the right role within transportation, utilities, and highways within our client base.
Main Purpose of the Role
To lead Project Management Commissions, taking responsibility for end-to-end service delivery, often with respect to large or complex projects.
To act as the key, day-to-day client interface, ensuring that:
- Client objectives are met
- Projects are delivered to time, cost targets, and the appropriate quality standards

Scope
- Senior Project Managers handle commissions of varying sizes, depending on the complexity of the project.
- Typically, projects fall within the £10m to £25m range.
- Where the service is advisory in nature, for example urban re-generational funding, the overall project size may be much larger.
Key Responsibilities
Project Management
- Advising at a strategic level at the project inception stage, including:
- Providing advice on different approaches to achieve the client’s overall objectives
- Preparing and maintaining definitions of project requirements
- Helping establish the overall success criteria for the project, including:
- Time
- Cost
- Technical standards
- Performance parameters
- Establishing effective:
- Project governance
- Processes
- Systems for full project utilization
- Preparing and maintaining schedules of activity:
- Producing the master project plan
- Managing the project development aligned with approved plans and targets
- Developing and implementing:
- Resource plans
- Procurement of resources
- Leading and facilitating the overall cross-functional project team
- Monitoring and applying performance management techniques, including:
- Use of KPIs to improve project performance
- Managing the change control process
- Developing and agreeing budgets, controlling forecast and actual costs against them
- Managing project workflow between the team and the client:
- Through regular meetings
- Written communications
- Identifying and monitoring project risks, including:
- Planning and implementing risk mitigations
- Preparing formal project progress reports and other required reports
- Taking a leading role in interfacing with:
- The client
- Other consultants
- Managing stakeholders at all project stages
- Advising the client on:
- Health & Safety
- Environmental issues
- Risks
- Coordinating quality, safety, health, and environment measures, from planning through execution

Key Performance Indicators
A Senior Project Manager will be evaluated on:
- Projects managed to the right quality standards, delivered:
- Efficiently
- On time
- To budget
- Alignment of project delivery with the:
- Client’s objectives
- Conditions of appointment
- Effective leadership of the project team
- Development of strong relationships with:
- Clients
- Cross-functional team members
- Effective discharge of:
- Line management responsibilities (where applicable)
- Identification and execution of:
- Business development opportunities
- Existing and new client relationships
- Cross-selling initiatives
- Effective monitoring of:
- Internal financial status of all projects
- Efficient data retention and communication cascading
Qualifications & Experience
Candidates should ideally possess:
- A degree qualification (preferably in Civil Engineering)
- Experience on large scheme projects (£100m+)
*- Preferred qualifications:
- Chartered status with ICE, APM, RICS, etc.
