Senior Project Manager – Water & Wastewater

Overview

We are looking for an experienced Senior Project Manager to lead the successful delivery of water and wastewater infrastructure projects across the South of England. Projects will mostly be based across East Sussex, site visits will be a requirement alongside an office presence in Maidstone on a Hybrid basis.

The role is responsible for managing projects from initial concept and design through procurement, construction, commissioning and final handover. You will oversee programme delivery, commercial performance, health and safety, quality, risk management and resource planning while maintaining strong relationships with clients, consultants and project stakeholders. The position reports to the Regional Manager.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Manage a portfolio of water and wastewater projects from concept and design through procurement, construction, commissioning and handover.
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships, identify new opportunities and support tender submissions.
  • Deliver projects safely, on programme, within budget and to agreed quality standards.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering activities, including process, civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and commissioning disciplines.
  • Lead, mentor and manage project teams, ensuring effective resource planning and high performance.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of NEC contracts, commercial controls, change management, variations and final accounts.
  • Ensure compliance with all Health & Safety, CDM, environmental and quality requirements throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Review and coordinate technical documentation, including engineering drawings, specifications, RAMS and design submissions.
  • Work closely with design teams, subcontractors and suppliers to deliver compliant and cost-effective engineering solutions.
  • Develop, maintain and monitor project programmes using Microsoft Project and/or Primavera P6, reporting progress, risks, costs and key milestones to senior management.
  • Coordinate procurement of subcontractors, specialist services, plant and materials to support successful project delivery.
  • Oversee site activities, testing, commissioning, client training and project close-out, ensuring timely completion of all handover documentation, including commissioning records, Operation & Maintenance manuals and as-built information.
  • Promote continuous improvement and maintain compliance with company policies, industry standards and statutory requirements while supporting the ongoing development of project teams.

  • Proven track record delivering complex infrastructure projects through design, construction and commissioning.
  • Degree (or equivalent) in Engineering, Construction or a related discipline.
  • Strong understanding of treatment processes, MEICA systems and project delivery.
  • Good knowledge of NEC contracts, commercial management and project controls.
  • Minimum 10 years' experience delivering water and/or wastewater projects in a client-facing environment.
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering teams and supply chain partners.
  • Knowledge of CDM regulations, HAZOP/HAZCON processes and construction health & safety requirements.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Project and/or Primavera P6.
  • Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Well organised with the ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel throughout the South, including occasional overnight stays.
  • Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status with a recognised professional institution. (Desired)
