SENIOR PROJECT MANAGER – ENVIRONMENT
Location: Rotherham / Normanton
About the Role
An opportunity has arisen within Galliford Try’s Environment Business for a Senior Project Manager to lead our Yorkshire Water projects. Ideal candidates will be based in the Rotherham area (or nearby) and willing to travel across regional sites to manage schemes delivered under design and build contracts predominantly for the water industry.
We specialise in treatment and water schemes, and this role will see you overseeing framework agreements, supporting both programme delivery, financial performance, compliance (including H&S, CDM, and environmental legislation), and stakeholder relations.
Key Responsibilities
Project Delivery Leadership
- Assume full accountability for project outputs, including programme adherence, financial health, health, safety, and environmental compliance, ensuring progress against KPIs and project objectives
- Manage staff at all levels, providing leadership, mentorship, recruitment, and training to retain and grow talent
- Develop project programmes in collaboration with planners, monitoring progress against milestones, and ensuring delivery against budget constraints
Contract & Commercial Management
- Oversee NEC contract conditions with acumen and ensure commercial robustness
- Manage multiple concurrent projects, maintaining accountability for profitability and adherence to financial frameworks
- Handle contract documentation (e.g., Mid-Term Price Variation, Final Accounts, As-Built Drawings), contract reviews, and financial approvals
Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance
- Ensure RAMS, process safety assessments, and environmental appropriatenesses meet legal and client requirements
- Uphold H&S laws, CDM regulations, and internal company standards, including risk assessments for in-house and outsourced teams
Client & Stakeholder Engagement
- Work professionally with senior client representatives, ensuring alignment with schedules, costs, and quality outcomes

Resource Optimisation & Procurement
- Coordinate suppliers, subcontractors, and in-house resources for effective workflow and value maximisation
- Execute procurement of specialist equipment, materials, and subcontractors in a timely, budget-efficient manner
Reporting & Strategic Development
- Present regular project performance updates and financial reviews to senior management (Commercial Manager, Head of Delivery, Regional Director)
- Assist in developing new tender opportunities, ensuring delivery expertise informs bids
Training & Outputs
- Facilitate project companion activities including factory inspections, commissioning, client training
- Prepare manuals (Commissioning, O&M) and other project outputs to client/Project close-out standards
About You
Essential Qualification & Experience
- Qualification: Industry-relevant qualification such as an ONC / HNC / B.Eng or NVQ equivalent
- Experience:
- Demonstrable NEC contract expertise
- Water or sewage industry background, preferably commercial
- Strong understanding of design & build methodologies
- Experience managing multiple concurrent projects with varying scopes
Desirable & Highly Valued
- Certifications: IOSH, CITB SMSTS Certification, or CSCS Card
- Technical Competencies: Proficiency in MS Office, project management tools, and data analysis
- Soft Skills: Self-motivation, stress resilience, discretion in prioritising workloads, ability to make swift, sound decisions
