Role Overview

Senior Project Managers from Turner & Townsend’s Central South region are seeking experienced leaders to progress into a senior project management role. Based on infrastructure projects (transportation, utilities, and highways), this position supports career development while delivering high-value projects to international clients.

Main Purpose of Role

  • Lead end-to-end project management commissions on large or complex projects.
  • Serve as the key client interface, ensuring objectives are met, and projects are delivered on time, to budget, and to quality standards.
  • Manage diverse, high-value projects (typically £10m–£25m or advisory-focused projects of greater scale).

Key Accountabilities

Senior Project Managers are responsible for strategic oversight, team leadership, and operational delivery across the following areas:

Project Strategy & Planning

  • Provide strategic advice during project inception on approaches to achieve client objectives.
  • Define and maintain project requirements, success criteria, and governance processes.
  • Develop and enforce project plans (master schedules, Gantt charts, etc.).

Execution & Delivery

  • Ensure projects adhere to approved timelines, cost, and quality standards.
  • Lead resource allocation, including procurement of teams and external partners.
  • Facilitate cross-functional teamwork across stakeholders (client, consultants, contractors).

Performance & Compliance

  • Implement performance management using KPIs, risk tracking, and cost controls.
  • Manage change control, budgets, and cost forecasting.
  • Conduct health & safety (HSE), environmental compliance, and quality assurance.

Client & Stakeholder Management

  • Act as the primary client interface, reporting progress and resolving issues proactively.
  • Liaise with other consultants, contractors, and regulatory authorities.

Knowledge & Reporting

  • Prepare detailed progress reports, reviews, and presentations.
  • Maintain records and improve project transparency and compliance.

Business & Growth Opportunities

  • Identify business development opportunities, including upselling services to existing clients.
  • Strengthen relationships with clients and across the business.

Success Criteria

A Senior Project Manager will be evaluated based on their ability to:

  • Deliver projects efficiently, on time, on budget, and to agreed quality standards.
  • Ensure client satisfaction and alignment with project conditions.
  • Lead and engage teams effectively while fostering strong working relationships.
  • Drive commercial success and financial health of projects.
  • Proactively boost business growth through client retention and expansion.

Requirements

Candidates should ideally possess:

Essential

  • Degree-level qualification, preferably in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in infrastructure project management (specialising in transport, utilities, or highways).
  • Experience on large-scale projects (£100m+ preferred).
  • Strong ability to negotiate, problem-solve, and drive outcomes.

Desirable

  • Chartered status with professional bodies such as (ICE, APM, RICS, OAQ).
  • Track record of leading complex, cross-disciplinary projects.
  • Knowledge and application of procurement models (e.g., DBFO, PFS).
  • Financial and commercial knowledge to advise on contract optimisation.
  • Understanding of SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley) control frameworks (advantageous for this role).
