Senior Project Manager – Nuclear Upgrade Programme

The Senior Project Manager will lead an upgrade programme of works within a nuclear licenced site, reporting to the Project Lead or Project Director. This critical role involves owning, planning, managing, and delivering diverse projects to support a wider infrastructure upgrade within a matrix team framework with multiple stakeholders and competing priorities.

Due to the strict security requirements, candidates must be a UK National and will need to progress through security clearance.


Key Responsibilities

  • Scope Management

    • Draft scope of works documents
    • Incorporate comments through the document control system to enable procurement packages
  • Project Delivery & Risk Management

    • Manage and deliver allocated project packages under the direction of the Project Lead/Project Director
    • Reduce risks through gate reviews to ensure successful project progression
    • Provide regular updates on scheduling, risk, cost, and quality via weekly project reports and team reviews

  • Compliance & Discipline

    • Ensure adherence to all working practices, safety protocols, quality standards, and corporate procedures
    • Monitor compliance and maintain discipline across the project
  • Stakeholder & Subcontractor Engagement

    • Collabrate with subcontractors to clarify scope, work, and scheduling requirements
    • Act as line manager for an Assistant Project Manager

Requirements

  • Technical & Planning Expertise

    • Proven ability in technical problem-solving, interpreting product design/engineering discussions (including mechanical, electrical, or control systems)
    • Strong understanding of product lifecycle planning & management
    • Ability to identify project/system-level interfaces and influence critical path timings
  • Communication & Stakeholder Management

    • Exceptional communication, presentation, and stakeholder engagement skills
    • Experience integrating and influencing across cross-functional teams in a structured organisation
  • Qualifications & Experience

    • Degree level qualification or equivalent
    • Membership of an appropriate professional body (desirable)
    • Essential experience in fast-paced project environments
    • Preference for SQEP-assessed candidates in nuclear engineering, design, or project management
    • Desirable experience in nuclear or highly regulated sectors
