Senior Project Manager (Ireland PMCM Rail)

Job Description

What if you could do the kind of work the world needs?

At WSP, you can access our global scale, contribute to landmark projects and connect with the brightest minds in your field to do the best work of your life. You can embrace your curiosity in a culture that celebrates new ideas and diverse perspectives. You can experience a world of opportunity and the chance to shape a career as unique as you.

We are a diverse, inclusive and enthusiastic team of Project, Commercial and Design Managers working across the Irish rail sector, united by a shared purpose: delivering sustainable, resilient transport solutions for communities across Ireland. Our passion comes from shaping the built environment through high‑quality, tailored project delivery as we strive to be best in class.

As a Senior Project Manager within WSP’s PMCM Rail team in Ireland, you will lead the delivery of complex rail projects of regional and national significance. These may include heavy rail, light rail and metro schemes that play a critical role in Ireland’s future transport infrastructure. You will ensure projects are delivered safely, to a high standard of quality, on programme and within budget.

At WSP, our Senior Project Managers are people who make a difference. You will proactively manage requirements, budgets, schedules and risk, and influence multi‑disciplinary teams to deliver successful outcomes together. You will bring strong technical capability, clear communication and a collaborative, problem‑solving approach, with the confidence to take on new challenges.

You will work closely with key Irish Clients and partners such as Iarnród Éireann, the National Transport Authority (NTA), Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII), Luas operators and local authorities, collaborating with WSP’s multidisciplinary teams across Ireland and the wider UK & Ireland region. Delivery will be managed from WSP offices, client offices and site locations, depending on project needs.

Our culture actively supports work‑life balance, and we encourage flexible working arrangements. You will be based in one of our modern offices in Naas, Dublin, or Belfast, with an expectation of working in the office a minimum of three days per week to support collaboration with colleagues and Clients. Site visits will form part of the role as required.

At WSP, you will have the opportunity to take the next step in your career, building on your experience and achieving your professional ambitions. We offer strong support for personal development and progression, both locally and across WSP’s global business, including opportunities to gain or progress professional project management qualifications.

A Little More About Your Role…

Coordinating multidisciplinary teams through project meetings and target‑led workshops, ensuring critical issues are resolved promptly and projects meet safety, functional and regulatory requirements. Establishing robust project management processes and governance in collaboration with Client teams. Acting as the principal point of contact for Clients throughout design and construction phases. Developing and maintaining strong Client relationships through effective communication and influencing skills. Producing monthly project reports, forecasts and data‑led insights to provide clarity on project performance to senior stakeholders. Leading engagement with internal and external stakeholders, including regulators, local authorities and community groups. Chairing project meetings, presentations and progress reviews. Managing stakeholder expectations and responding to concerns effectively. Managing contracts in accordance with agreed rules of engagement, including NEC3/NEC4. Managing project budgets, cost forecasting, change control and financial performance. Managing change, risk and delay events, ensuring appropriate mitigations are implemented. Proactively managing early warnings, RFIs and communications to reduce risk and support successful project delivery.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
