Senior Project Manager (IT/Telecommunications)

About the Role
At ScottishPower, our people are our most critical asset. This role sits within the Smart Grid Operations department, driving RIIO-driven strategic projects while ensuring the safe, reliable operation of telecommunications, Radio Tele Switch Service (RTS) and infrastructure networks.
As part of our Telecommunications Transformation programme, you will:
- Lead the end-to-end delivery of a major capital programme
- Own governance, contracts, budgeting, and stakeholder engagement
- Drive efficiency, innovation, and value engineering to optimise regulatory spend
- Support wider project methodology developments across the business
This opportunity offers growth into stakesholder leadership for broader capital programme delivery beyond Telecommunications.
Key Responsibilities
Project & Programme Leadership
- Manage projects from inception to close-out, ensuring alignment with business objectives—contract administration, risk mitigation, and governing cross-functional teams
- Identify, track, and resolve critical project risks with proactive solutions to minimise impact
- Proactively engage stakeholders, fostering accountability and measuring performance against KPIs
Financial & Commercial Governance
- Develop and maintain accurate financial forecasts and projections
- Ensure contractual compliance, asset data integrity, and capital expenditure efficiency
- Autonomously lead budget monitoring and financial reporting while upholding governance standards

Change & Innovation
- Champion continuous improvement by reviewing projects, capturing lessons learned, and sharing best practices
- Identify value engineering opportunities for regulatory price control outperformance
- Align project schedules with asset management systems and compliance deadlines
- Support the evolution of project management methodologies and frameworks
Collaborative Leadership
- Partner with the Head of Smart Grid Operations, PMO and Telecommunications Manager to execute the transformation programme
What We Look For
We are seeking an experienced, strategic project leader with:
- 5+ years’ leading large-scale programmes (preferably in Energy or Telecommunications)
- Proven track record in delivering outperformance under budget/risk constraints
- Hands-on expertise in:
- Project risk, cost control, and governance
- Procurement/Contract Management (incl. supplier performance)
- Capital Expenditure forecasting, budgeting, and cost optimisation
- Business process improvement and stakeholder change management
- Relevant professional qualifications (e.g. PRINCE2 Agile, MSP, PMP), a strong asset
- Leadership experience managing cross-functional teams under time/cost pressures
- Health, safety, environmental, and quality assurance (HSEQ) aptitude
- Commercial awareness and process ownership mindset
