The Role

As Senior Project Manager, you will work within a multi-disciplinary engineering team to deliver water and wastewater infrastructure projects from design through to construction, commissioning, and handover to the client.

In this key role, you will lead all aspects of Civil, Building, Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Control and Automation (MEICA) Engineering work, ensuring delivery aligns with the programme, budget, and HSQE standards. This includes commercial management, programme oversight, and fostering a strong health, safety, and sustainability culture.

You will operate within a one-team culture, actively contributing to your own professional development while shaping specialised expertise in wastewater treatment and filtration, mechanical system installation, and civil engineering.


Main Duties & Responsibilities

Project Delivery & Orchestration

  • Lead and co-ordinate the multi-disciplinary civil, MEICA, and process team to ensure timely, on-budget, and high-quality delivery of projects under your responsibility.
  • Collaborate with all key stakeholders, including clients, regulatory bodies, and third parties, to maintain collaborative and cooperative relationships.
  • Ensure seamless interface between internal and external designers in alignment with the Programme Schedule for Design and Procurement (PSDP) process.

Health, Safety, Quality & Environmental Compliance

  • Enforce Health, Safety, Environmental, and Sustainability (HSQE) policies on-site, embedding adherence within the team.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections, toolbox talks, and weekly interactive sessions (e.g., whiteboard meetings) to reinforce positive HSQE behaviour.
  • Stabilise Quality Management Systems to ensure global standards are upheld and prioritised.

Programme & Commercial Management

  • Utilise Lean Construction and Last Planner Systems to optimise project execution.
  • Continuously monitor risk and opportunity, implementing mitigation strategies to safeguard project outcomes.
  • Submit timely monthly reports to framework managers on performance against programme, budget, and HSQE KPIs.

Procurement & Financial Controls

  • Lead procurement processes for supplies, subcontracts, and major purchase orders, ensuring timely and budget-compliant execution.
  • Oversee cash flow management, aligning with the Contracts Manager/Commercial Manager to meet interim payment milestones and final accounts agreements.

People Development & Leadership

  • Foster and mentor team members, including:
    • Training and mentoring to build industry-leading competencies.
    • Recruitment-led resource management, playing an active role in hiring decisions.
    • Setting clear individual development plans tailored to each team member’s growth.
  • Oversee the response to client feedback, ensuring prompt resolution of any complaints and constructive contribution to customer satisfaction assessments.

Continuous Improvement & Compliance

  • Champion lessons learned exercises to implement innovative solutions for future projects, driving ongoing process enhancements.
  • Participate in continuous professional development (CPD), keeping abreast of industry standards and emerging technologies.
  • Provide support as required in tendering new projects, researching and evaluating new opportunities to expand services.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

Essential Requirements

  • 5+ years of Project Management experience, preferably within water or wastewater industry projects.
  • Level 8 honours degree or equivalent qualification in Engineering, Civil Engineering, MEICA-related discipline, or construction management.
  • In-depth knowledge of Construction Safety, Health and Welfare Regulations 2013 (Management of Health and Safety at Work, Safety Statement Experience, Risk Assessments).
  • Certification in Managing Safely for Construction Managers (or equivalent) is highly desirable.
  • Practical experience in managing Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, and Instrumentation Control works, including:
    • Concrete works
    • Pipelaying and process plant installation
    • Electrical and instrumentation system integration
  • Full UK Irish Driving License with provision for vehicle expensing/fleet availability.

Commercial & Technical Competencies

  • Strong programme management skills with familiarity and hands-on use of Microsoft Project to prepare baseline plans and progress updates.
  • Negotiation and financial acumen, with ability to manage supplier contracts, subcontracts, and accounts to final agreement.
  • Conflict resolution and proactive problem-solving skills in dynamic, multi-stakeholder environments.
  • Comprehensive Microsoft Office proficiency (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
