Senior Project Manager

Senior Project Manager – Process Automation | Schneider Electric (UK & Europe)

■ About the Role

As a Senior Project Manager within Schneider Electric’s Process Automation division, you will lead the end-to-end delivery of high-impact, multi-million-pound industrial automation projects across the UK and Europe. Your responsibilities encompass planning, execution, budget management, quality assurance, and stakeholder leadership in complex, high-risk environments. You will own project scope, cost, schedule, risks, and quality while fostering strong client relationships and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams (internal & external contractors).

■ Key Responsibilities

  • Drive end-to-end management of multi-million-pound automation projects, ensuring on-time, on-budget, and high-quality delivery.
  • Ownership of critical project dimensions:
    • Scope & planning
    • Cost control & financial forecasting
    • Risk assessment & mitigation
    • Schedule adherence & milestone tracking
    • Quality assurance
  • Lead delivery of safety-critical automation solutions, including:
    • DCS (Distributed Control Systems)
    • SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition)
    • PLC (Programmable Logic Controllers)
    • Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS)
    • Cybersecurity for industrial systems
  • Direct cross-functional teams (internal experts & external subcontractors) to execute projects efficiently.
  • Serve as the primary liaison for strategic clients and other stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Govern multiple concurrent projects (typically 2 major projects), monitoring performance, reporting KPIs, and aligning with business objectives.
  • Oversee project execution in Greenfield (new sites) and Brownfield (existing sites) environments.
  • Garner regulatory compliance and adherence to Schneider Electric’s Trust Charter (ethics, safety, sustainability, and cybersecurity).

■ Essential Skills & Attitudes

Technical Expertise

  • Proven industrial automation project management experience, particularly in:
    • DCS, SCADA, PLC, and Safety Instrumentation Systems
    • High-value, mission-critical automation deployments
  • Knowledge of IEC 61508, IEC 61511, ISA-5, and cybersecurity standards (e.g., IEC 62443, NIST 800-53).
  • Understanding of digital transformation for process industries (IIoT, data analytics, AI-enabled automation).

Leadership & Strategic Mindset

  • Ability to command and inspire cross-functional teams, bridging gaps between technical, financial, and operational aspects.
  • Stakeholder diplomacy—building trust with clients, government regulators, and senior decision-makers.
  • Exceptional decision-making under pressure, demonstrating ownership, accountability, and resilience.
  • Commercial acumen—cost estimation, budget variance analysis, risk-based pricing, and negotiation.

Structured Working Style

Education & Certification

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in:

    • Automation or related technical discipline (preferred)
  • Preferred:
    • PMP (Project Management Professional) certification, or equivalent (e.g., PRINCE2 Practitioner, Scrum Master).
    • Relevant master’s degree or professional credentials (e.g., Industry 4.0, digitization certifications).

Career Progression Track

  • Proven 10+ years of leadership experience in high-value, large-scale automation projects.
  • Track record of successfully managing multi-million-pound industrial projects to completion.
