Senior Project Manager (Service Transformation)

Contract: 6 - 9 months

Location: Remote (UK)

The Senior Project Manager (Service Transformation) will lead the end-to-end delivery of key projects or workstreams within the Transformation Programme.

Reporting directly to the Programme Director, this role ensures on-time, in-scope delivery, aligns projects with programme objectives, and drives execution efficiency across cross-functional teams. The ideal candidate will balance attention to detail with strategic oversight, ensuring transformational goals are met through disciplined delivery processes.


### Key Responsibilities

End-to-end Project Delivery Ownership

  • Lead the full lifecycle of assigned projects, ensuring adherence to timelines, scope, and quality standards.
  • Develop, referee, and manage detailed project plans, timelines, and deliverables.
  • Align delivery with programme priorities, often reconciling competing demands.
  • Track and manage cross-project dependencies, proactively addressing pinch points.
  • Uphold commercial rigour while balancing operational needs.

Planning & Execution Management

  • Define clear project scope, deliverables, and success metrics, breaking complex programme objectives into actionable plans.
  • Translate programme roadmaps into executable activities, ensuring suitability for the organisation’s context.
  • Monitor execution against KPIs, requiring real-time adjustments to risks or changes.
  • Allocate and optimise resources across deliveries to maintain rate of return.
  • Facilitate cross-functional coordination amongst teams/SMEs, ensuring consistent progress.

Risk & Issue Management

  • Proactively identify, assess, and escalate project-level risks, mitigating threats via mitigation plans.
  • Implement contingency measures for high-impact issues, ensuring consistency in approach.
  • Convene and report on risks/issues, retaining full visibility until resolution.
  • Partner with the PMO and Programme Director to stay ahead of system-wide risk trends.

Stakeholder Engagement & Alignment

  • Build trust and transparency with cross-functional stakeholders, clarifying expectations upfront.
  • Articulate complex statuses in stakeholder meetings, translating project nuances.
  • Distribute timely, salient updates, ensuring no surprises at governance points.
  • Facilitate decisions swiftly by managing stakeholders between urgent priorities.

Reporting & Governance Contribution

  • Provide precisely crafted insights into project data and status, driving informed decisions.
  • Align progress metrics with programme governance standards, ensuring transparency.
  • Support preparation for checkpoints and reviews, amplifying project insights.

Change & Adoption Enablement

  • Collaborate with the Change Team to ensure planned solutions are adoption-ready.
  • Shape functional change delivery plans, accounting for people-readiness factors.
  • Flag critical adoption risks, advocating out-integrating solutions when needed.
  • Ensure that resultant changes are properly embedded in operations.

Cross-functional Team Collaboration

  • Act as conduit between technology/operations, finance, and external partners.
  • Develop psychological safety in project teams, balancing accountability with support.
  • Avoid “silo blindness” by insisting upon integrated decision-making.
  • Champion a delivery-first culture, encouraging problem-solving from all roles.

### Requirements & Eligibility

Core Competencies

  • Proven expertise in project planning/execution, with mastery over legal milestones and dependencies.
  • Sophisticated issue-risk handling, backed by strong analytical thinking.
  • Sturdy foundational knowledge of AGILE, PRINCE2, or comparable methodologies.
  • Composure under pressure—prioritise projects amid short windows and competing objectives.
  • Stakeholder focus: craft meaningful relationships with senior business leads.

Essential Experience

  • Demonstrated ability to deliver complex cross-functional projects on time and within scope.
  • Transformation/operations backgrounds, with experience navigating large-scale initiatives.
  • Proven experience working in matrix organisations, coordinating multi-stakeholder efforts.
  • Familiarity with established governance and reporting frameworks (PMI, Gartner, etc.).

Skills

  • Strategic problem-solving—balance between process discipline and creative workshop participation.
  • Persuasive communication—tailor messages to different audiences (e.g., technical vs. finance).
  • Emotional agility—de-escalate tensions while maintaining momentum.

  • Team deliveries: On time, in scope, and fair trade-off against cost/quality.
  • Risk management: Prompt filming of issues (less than 1-day lag threshold) and effective mitigation.
  • Link to roadmap: Alignment with programme milestones, supported by granular status data.
  • State of play reports: Completion indicators meet PMO standards (99%+ credibility).
  • Stakeholder engagement: NPS/retention scores exceed 80% post-project closeout.
  • End-to-end success: Initiatives implemented and adopted (verified via governance sign-offs).

### Key Relationships & Interaction

  • Works closely with Technology/Operations, overseeing tech features and scalability risks.
  • Partners with Finance/Value Tracking to optimise working capital timelines and ROI forecasting.
