Senior Project Manager
Senior Project Manager (District Heating) – Chronos Energy
About the Role
Chronos Energy are recruiting a Senior Project Manager to join the District Heating delivery team, reporting to the Head of Delivery. This critical role requires expertise in delivering a portfolio of district energy projects, ensuring safe, compliant, and successful outcomes—on time, on budget, and to the highest quality standards, while championing excellent customer service and smooth operations & maintenance transitions.
Responsibilities
Project Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, motivate, and coordinate a multi-disciplinary team, including engineers, suppliers, contractors, and Project Managers
- Hold line management responsibility for Project Managers, ensuring performance, delivery, and professional development
- Coach and mentor Project Managers across the portfolio, driving best practice consistency
- Provide leadership on complex, high-risk, or underperforming projects
Project Delivery & Compliance
- Oversee District Heating projects, ensuring:
- Milestones and programme targets are met
- Cost, quality, and performance standards align with agreements
- Effective project close-out (including lessons learned and continuous improvement initiatives)
- Strengthened health and safety culture, compliance with CDM Regulations, and knowledge of Heat Network Regulations
- Conduct audits, inspections, and safety performance assessments
- Ensure governance and regulatory adherence

Commercial & Financial Oversight
- Own commercial performance across the portfolio, including:
- Budget management and forecasting
- Cost-to-complete accuracy
- Margin protection and optimisation
- Contract development, negotiation, and administration
- Management of change management and compensation events
- Risk, issue, opportunity, and financial exposure management
Technical Delivery
- Oversee design and build of:
- Energy centres
- Distribution pipe networks
- Heat Interface Units (HIU) installations and connections
- Ensure quality control across installation, commissioning, and handover
- Support innovation, constructability, and value engineering
Qualifications
- Degree or HND in Engineering, Energy, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience)
- APM (Association for Project Management) qualification (or equivalent alternative)

Skills
Required
✔ Strong experience delivering District Energy / Heat Network projects, including low-carbon heat technologies ✔ Proven expertise in:
- Full project lifecycle management
- Commercial and financial management (budgeting, forecasting)
- Operating in complex, multi-stakeholder environments ✔ Solid understanding of:
- Health & Safety legislation and CDM Regulations
- Heat network regulations, standards, and best practices
- Contract management principles
Preferred
✦ Strong leadership and decision-making capability ✦ Excellent communication, reporting, and stakeholder engagement ✦ Ability to influence at all levels, from senior leadership to technical teams ✦ Commercial and financial acumen, with strong forecasting skills ✦ Proficient in project planning tools (e.g. Microsoft Project) ✦ Ability to balance multiple priorities and deliver under tight deadlines ✦ Analytical risk management and problem-solving skills ✦ High attention to detail with a focus on quality and performance ✦ Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint ✦ Growth mindset, committed to continuous improvement and efficiency
