Role: Senior Project Manager / Associate Project Manager
Delivering NEC4 ECC Contracts for National Highways
Arcadis seeks Senior Project Managers or Associate Project Managers with:
- Strong NEC4 Experience
- Proven technical and commercial expertise
- A commitment to £200m+ major infrastructure projects
The ideal candidate will act as NEC4 Accredited Project Manager, operating at Competent to Specialist level under the NEC Competency Framework. You’ll administer NEC4 ECC contracts autonomously—including critical decision-making, certifications, and compliance—while leading high-value agreements on behalf of National Highways.
Role Accountabilities
Full Contract Administration & Compliance ✔ Operate as the Named NEC4 ECC Project Manager, ensuring strict adherence to:
- NEC4 conditions
- National Highways Amendments ✔ Deliver impartial, expert contractual advice to senior stakeholders
Core NEC4 Project Manager Responsibilities ✔ Conduct Early Warning Notices, Risk Reduction Meetings, and Compensation Events ✔ Oversee programme acceptance, time management decisions, and change control ✔ Lead payment assessments, certification processes, and final account settlements ✔ Issue all contractual notices, acceptances, and decisions with precision

Project Delivery & Stakeholder Management ✔ Produce sustainable outcomes for £200m+ infrastructure projects, aligning with:
- Scope, budget, programme, and governance criteria
- Technical compliance and design integrity ✔ Support decision-making via deep technical and commercial expertise
Leadership & Team Development ✔ Supervise and mentor Assistant PMs, refining their NEC4 competency ✔ Promote best practice across project management methodologies
Collaboration & Representation ✔ Build strong relationships with National Highways, contractors, designers, and Arcadis clients ✔ Maintain a 3-day-a-week site presence, representing Arcadis professionally
Qualifications & Mandatory Experience

Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional qualifications (Preferred): Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Chartered Surveyor (MRICS/FRICS)

NEC4 Adjudication:
- Hold current NEC4 Project Manager Accreditation
- Demonstrated performance at Competent to Specialist level under the NEC Framework (2022 edition)

Experiential Thresholds:
- Proven record of being the named Project Manager on National Highways contracts
- Sustained experience as an NEC4 Project Manager, acting autonomously
- Successfully managed high-value infrastructure projects (£200m+)
