About us
The British Energy Security Strategy has set out the Government’s ambition to connect up to 50GW of offshore generation to the electricity network by 2030.
At National Grid, we connect homes and businesses to power, ensuring supply and demand are balanced every second of every day. From schools and hospitals to sporting arenas, we keep the lights on for millions across the UK. Through our investment in Strategic Infrastructure and the Great Grid Upgrade, we are enabling more home-grown energy, strengthening energy security, and supporting a cleaner, more sustainable future.
We are currently recruiting for a Senior Project Supervisor to join our Eastern Green Link 2 (EGL2) onshore cable installation project team. This element of a nationally significant project involves the installation of approximately 68km of onshore HVDC cable from Fraisthorpe in the East Riding of Yorkshire area to the new converter station adjacent to Drax Power Station. This is a site-based role requiring on-site presence 5 days per week between Fraisthorpe and Drax, with site offices based at Market Weighton.
Job Purpose
Eastern Green Link 2 (EGL2) is a 2GW High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) electrical "superhighway" connecting Peterhead in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, with Drax in North Yorkshire, England. Jointly developed by Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks Transmission (SSENT) and National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET), the project commenced construction in August 2025, with significant construction activity continuing throughout 2026 and energisation planned for 2029.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
