As part of our continued growth in the UK commercial market, we’re looking for a Senior Property & Casualty Underwriter to join our Chelmsford office on a hybrid basis, playing a key role in driving profitable new business.

Role Description

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced underwriter to take ownership of new business development across Property & Casualty lines. You will work closely with brokers and internal stakeholders to identify, shape, and secure high-quality opportunities while maintaining underwriting discipline and profitability.

  • Underwrite new business across Property and Casualty risks in line with Allianz underwriting appetite and authority levels
  • Proactively identify and develop new broker relationships, driving growth through strong market engagement
  • Deliver profitable new business by applying sound underwriting judgment and technical expertise
  • Analyse risk exposures, terms, and pricing using data and underwriting tools
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key brokers and internal teams
  • Contribute to regional business plans and growth strategies
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal governance standards
  • Act as a senior referral point and mentor for less experienced underwriters where appropriate

Salary Information

Pay is based on relevant experience, skills for the role, and location. Salary is only one part of our total reward package.

About You

  • Proven experience in Commercial Property & Casualty underwriting, with a strong focus on new business
  • Strong technical underwriting expertise and risk assessment capability
  • Commercial mindset with a track record of delivering profitable growth
  • Excellent negotiation and relationship management skills
  • Strong analytical and decision making capability
  • Ability to work autonomously while contributing to wider team objectives

Essential Skills

  • Deep knowledge of Property & Casualty products, coverage, and terms
  • Proven ability to identify and win new business opportunities
  • Strong understanding of market dynamics, competition, and broker strategies
  • Strong ability to assess complex risks and exposures
  • Experience with pricing, wordings, and underwriting frameworks
  • Understanding of reinsurance, aggregation, and portfolio impacts
