Senior Data Engineer (Python Enterprise Developer)

Role Overview

Position: Senior Data Engineer (Python Enterprise Developer) Location: London (Canary Wharf) Work Mode: Hybrid (4 days per week onsite) Contract Duration: Long-term contract Recruiter: Norton Blake


About the Client

Norton Blake is partnering with a global leader in Energy & Trading to recruit a Senior Data Engineer for a state-of-the-art Canary Wharf office. This long-term contract role will give you the opportunity to lead and architect enterprise-grade data solutions in a fast-paced, high-impact environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Pipeline Architecture: Lead the design, development, and optimization of scalable data pipelines and enterprise-grade Python applications.
  • Technical Leadership: Champion Python best practices in automation, data scraping, processing, and integration workflows.
  • Data Management: Use Pandas, NumPy, Polars for data analysis and BeautifulSoup, Selenium, Requests, pdfplumber for scraping.
  • Database & Cloud Solutions: Optimise PostgreSQL queries and deploy workflows across AWS (S3) and Azure Databricks.
  • DevOps & CI/CD: Implement smooth, automated deployments using Azure DevOps, Jenkins, and Git.
  • Agile Collaboration: Work cross-functionally across global teams using Scrum/Agile methodologies.

Requirements & Skills

Must-Haves (Core Requirements)

  • Industry Focus: Must have 8+ years of relevant experience in Energy Trading or commodities.
  • Technical Depth: Pure, hands-on Python development (management-only roles without coding not considered).
  • Data Tech Stack:
    • SQL (PostgreSQL), Python, Azure Databricks, AWS S3, Git (version control)
    • CI/CD tools: Azure DevOps, Jenkins, Apache Airflow (advantageous)
  • Library Expertise: Strong experience with Pandas, NumPy, Polars, BeautifulSoup, Selenium, Requests
  • Native Python ETL: Proven track record of building and optimising ETL pipelines—Big Data/Spark experience a strong plus.
