Senior Python Engineer – AWS & AI (2 days/WEEK in London)
About the Role
Our client—a market-leading fintech platform—seeks a Senior Python Engineer to drive the innovation of their core B2B SaaS products. As part of this role, you’ll:
- Design and scale Python-based microservices handling massive financial datasets
- Partner with product teams to optimise workflows and deliver technical leadership
- Lead mentorship for junior engineers, ensuring upward growth through collaborative code reviews and guidance
The organisation champions a culture of cutting-edge engineering, particularly in AI-driven automation. You’ll actively leverage AI agent tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude, Cursor) to enhance delivery speed while upholding technical excellence.
Key Responsibilities

SaaS Development
- Design, develop, and scale Python microservices designed for single- and multi-tenant Enterprise SaaS architectures
- Ensure reliability, performance, and security across scalable financial platforms

AI-Augmented Engineering
- Champion the adoption of AI productivity tools (LLMs, Copilot, etc.) to accelerate development workflows
- Standardise automated testing, refactoring, and documentation processes

Cloud & DevOps Leadership
- Optimise AWS infrastructure with emphasis on:
- Observability (metrics, logging, tracing)
- Security (least-privilege principles, compliance)
- Operational resilience (CI/CD pipelines, IaC)
- Manage cloud services including Cognito, Lambda, Fargate, SQS, SNS, and EventBridge

Data Architecture & Collaboration
- Work closely with Product Owners to translate complex data requirements into clear, actionable engineering roadmaps
- Drive data-driven decision-making through clean, performant PostgreSQL systems

Technical Mentorship
- Guide junior/mid-level engineers through code reviews, pairing, and skill births
- Foster a culture of collaborative ownership in technical deliverables
Technical Requirements
- Python Proficiency
- Deep expertise in scaling Python-based microservices for B2B SaaS systems
- Hands-on experience in REST/web API development and distributed systems
- AWS Expertise
- Practical skill with core AWS services: Autoscale, API Gateway, S3, Terraform (IaC), and IAM permissions Cloud observability tools: CloudWatch, X-Ray
- Data Layer Knowledge
- Advanced PostgreSQL skills, including relational modelling and query performance tuning
- AI & Developer Tools
- Proven experience integrating AI assistant workflows (e.g., LangChain, LlamaIndex*) into daily software delivery
- Strong familiarity with LLM-driven tools (e.g., Cursor, Copilot)
- Engineering Leadership
- Ability to allegedly technical ambiguity while driving alignment with stakeholders
- Track record of owning project outcomes from requirements to deployment

Desirable Skills
- FinTech/Capital Markets
- Experience with real-time financial data processing, APIs, or visualisation tools e.g., Pandas, DuckDB
- Advanced AWS Proficiency
- Advanced use of event-driven architectures with SQS, SNS, or Step Functions
- Frontend Interface
- Competency in TypeScript for data-heavy dashboards or visual analytics
- Big Data Tools
- Familiarity with Spark, Snowflake, or Kafka for mass datasets
