Senior QA Engineer

Senior QA Engineer (Remote, United Kingdom)

As a Senior QA Engineer, you’ll play a pivotal role in ensuring the quality, reliability, and performance of modern web applications in a remote-first, collaborative engineering environment. You’ll work closely with developers, product managers, and customer-facing teams to drive quality standards throughout the entire software development lifecycle—from early design discussions to final validation.

Key Responsibilities

This role combines hands-on functional testing with quality advocacy, focusing on:

  • Defining and executing testing strategies for AI-powered and non-deterministic features, ensuring output consistency, quality, and safeguards
  • Designing and refining test documentation using structured methodologies and best practices
  • Validating complex asynchronous workflows and event-driven architectures under realistic conditions
  • Identifying and documenting defects with detailed, reproducible reports that align with quality standards
  • Collaborating across teams—engineering, product, and customer support—to resolve issues and enhance product quality
  • Advocating for a quality-first mindset through participation in technical discussions, risk identification, and continuous improvement initiatives

The opportunity allows you to shape testing approach, automate processes, and support the delivery of high-impact products used globally.


Key Accountabilities

Testing & Validation

  • Perform comprehensive functional testing of web applications, frontend interfaces, and APIs to ensure reliability and user experience excellence.
  • Execute testing strategies for AI-driven features, validating output quality and mitigating risks.
  • Analyze complex systems, including asynchronous processes and APIs, to confirm expected behavior under field-like conditions.

Quality Documentation & Automation

  • Design and maintain test cases following recognized methodologies (e.g., TDP, risk-based testing).
  • Improve test documentation with clear, reproducible processes for future reference.
  • Automate testing when appropriate (prior experience considered an advantage).

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

  • Engage early in SDLC—participate in requirements discussions, design reviews, and quality planning.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot and resolve issues in a timely manner.
  • Promote a quality-first culture, proactively highlighting risks and proposing enhancements.

Requirements

This is an entry-level position for a quality professional with:

  • At least 5 years of professional experience in QA/Testing, specialising in web applications (frontend + backend).
  • Strong proficiency in functional testing methodologies and SDLC stages, including:
    • Test design techniques (equivalence partitioning, boundary analysis, etc.)
    • Bug reporting practices (clear steps to reproduce, prioritization, screenshots)
  • SQL knowledge for data validation and backend testing.
  • Comfort with development tools (e.g., command-line for debugging, version control systems like Git).
  • General familiarity with:
    • Software architecture principles
    • Python (basic/advanced scripting for automation)
    • Write and run tests in a CI/CD pipeline is preferred
  • Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving skills—able to investigate edge cases and performance bottlenecks.
  • Proactive communication—collaborative with devs, product teams, and stakeholders.
