Job Title
We are looking for a highly technical Senior QA Engineer / Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to join a team building and supporting complex, business-critical trading systems.
This is not a traditional UI automation role. We are looking for someone who enjoys working closely with developers, can confidently test backend services, and has strong hands-on experience with Java, Spring Boot, API automation, service mocking, and integration testing.
What You'll Be Doing
- Designing and implementing automated tests for Java/Spring Boot applications
- Building and maintaining API and integration test frameworks
- Testing complex workflows across multiple services and systems
- Creating and using mocks/stubs to test services in isolation
- Validating business logic, data flows, and system integrations
- Working closely with developers during the development lifecycle
- Supporting CI/CD pipelines and shift-left testing practices
- Contributing to test strategy and automation improvements
- Ensuring quality across highly regulated financial platforms

What We're Looking For
Essential Technical Skills
- Strong hands-on Java experience
- Experience testing Spring Boot applications
- Excellent knowledge of:
- JUnit/TestNG
- Cucumber BDD
- REST Assured
- Strong API and integration testing experience
- Experience testing complex backend services and distributed systems
- Experience with service mocking and virtualisation using:
- Mockito
- WireMock
- MockServer
- or similar tools
- Strong SQL and database validation skills
- Experience working within CI/CD environments
Ideal Experience
- Testing microservices architectures
- Event-driven systems and messaging technologies (Kafka, RabbitMQ, etc.)
- Contract testing (PACT or similar)
- Spring Boot Test / MockMvc
- TestContainers
- Docker and Kubernetes
- Cloud platforms (AWS, Azure or GCP)

Domain Experience
We're particularly interested in candidates who have experience within:
- Trading platforms
- Market infrastructure
- Financial exchanges
- Investment banking
- Payments and fintech
- Regulatory reporting or risk systems

You'll likely be successful if you can confidently discuss:
- Testing Spring Boot services
- Writing Java-based automated tests from scratch
- Mocking dependent services using Mockito or WireMock
- Integration testing across multiple systems

- Validating business-critical workflows and complex data flows
- Solving technical problems without relying solely on UI automation
