Senior QHSE Engineer

Purpose of the job
The Senior QHSE Engineer is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining the organisation's Quality Management System while ensuring HSE requirements are effectively integrated into all business operations. This role drives quality excellence, regulatory compliance, customer satisfaction, and continuous improvement across the organisation. The Senior QHSE Engineer will lead initiatives to enhance product and service quality, strengthen process performance, and promote a culture of quality, while supporting HSE standards and safe working practices. Working closely with all departments, the role ensures quality objectives and HSE requirements are embedded throughout the business and aligned with the organisational goals.

Reports to: QHSE Manager

Key Accountabilities:

  • Develop, implement and continuously improve the Quality and HSE Management Systems, with a primary focus on quality excellence and operational performance.
  • Design, maintain and enhance management systems in accordance with ISO 9001, while ensuring ongoing compliance with ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 standards.
  • Plan, conduct and lead internal and external quality audits, coordinating HSE audits as required to ensure compliance and drive improvement.
  • Monitor product, process and system quality performance through inspections, audits, and data analysis, identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Establish and maintain quality policies, procedures, standards and controls to ensure consistency, compliance, and customer satisfaction.
  • Ensure all management system documentation remains current and compliant with applicable regulatory, customer, and certification requirements.
  • Manage non-conformances, customer complaints, quality incidents, and corrective and preventive actions, ensuring effective root cause analysis and sustainable solutions.
  • Conduct risk assessments and process reviews to identify quality risks, opportunities for improvement, and appropriate mitigation strategies.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives using quality tools and methodologies to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance business performance.
  • Develop and deliver quality and HSE training programmes that promote a culture of quality and accountability.
  • Monitor and report quality and HSE performance metrics, analysing trends and recommending improvement actions.
  • Develop and implement plans to enhance quality performance, customer satisfaction, and business effectiveness.
  • Maintain awareness of changes in quality, HSE and regulatory standards, ensuring organisational compliance and best practice adoption.
  • Collaborate with operational and support departments to embed quality principles and HSE requirements into business processes.
  • Liaise with customers, suppliers, certification bodies regarding QHSE matters.
  • Support management review processes, including KPI reporting, performance analysis, improvement planning, and action tracking.
  • Act as the focal point for corporate quality initiatives, ensuring alignment with business objectives while supporting the wider QHSE programs.
  • Partner with Procurement and suppliers to improve supplier quality, performance, and compliance through evaluation, auditing and development activities.

  • Exercise due diligence and care on moral, financial and legal considerations.

Employment, Educational and Professional Background:

  • A good level of engineering / manufacturing experience with primary, proven track record of driving Quality excellence.
  • Certified ISO9001 Lead auditor with verified expertise in internal and external auditing, comprehensive risk assessment and root cause incident investigation.
  • In depth knowledge of ISO 9001 is essential and ISO29001 is desirable to ensure rigid quality compliance, alongside a working knowledge of environmental and safety systems (ISO14001 and ISO45001).
  • Possess a foundational understanding of occupational risk management (IOSH Managing safely or NEBOSH certificate).
  • High level of computer and data literacy to manage modern quality management software and reporting tools.
