Senior Client Product Quality Engineer

Bristol, UK - Onsite working required

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Senior Product Quality Engineer to drive product quality, reliability, and continuous improvement across a portfolio of high-speed optical connectivity products. This role will lead customer issue resolution, product failure investigations, supplier quality activities, and quality improvement initiatives throughout the product lifecycle. The successful candidate will work closely with engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, and customer-facing teams to ensure robust quality processes, improve product reliability, and deliver exceptional customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities:

Customer Quality & Escalation Management (50%)

  • Lead investigation and resolution of customer returns, field failures, and RMAs.
  • Serve as the technical lead for customer quality escalations, providing timely communication and status updates.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and drive corrective and preventive actions.
  • Prepare and present 8D reports and other customer-facing quality documentation.
  • Support production teams with containment activities and implementation of corrective actions.

Supplier & Manufacturing Quality (20%)

  • Drive resolution of non-conforming material reports (NCMRs) and quality excursions.
  • Collaborate with suppliers, subcontract manufacturers, and internal stakeholders to identify root causes and implement sustainable corrective actions.
  • Monitor supplier performance and support continuous improvement initiatives across the supply chain.
  • Ensure quality standards are maintained throughout manufacturing, assembly, and test operations.

Continuous Improvement & Quality Systems (15%)

  • Lead continuous improvement projects using Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Kaizen, 5S, and related methodologies.
  • Support and maintain compliance with ISO9001 quality management systems.
  • Analyze quality and manufacturing data to identify trends, risks, and improvement opportunities.
  • Drive initiatives that improve product quality, process capability, yield, and customer satisfaction.

New Product Introduction & Reliability (15%)

  • Support new product introduction (NPI) activities by embedding quality requirements into development processes.
  • Participate in design reviews, product assessments, and cross-functional quality initiatives.
  • Facilitate FMEA workshops and risk assessments.
  • Develop and maintain control plans and quality documentation to support product launches.
  • Contribute to product reliability improvement efforts throughout the product lifecycle.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 10+ years of experience in semiconductor, photonics, optical networking, or high-technology manufacturing environments.
  • Strong understanding of semiconductor technologies and high-speed electronic circuits.
  • Solid knowledge of analog circuit fundamentals, amplifiers, bias circuits, current sources, and signal integrity principles.
  • Demonstrated experience with:
    • ISO9001 Quality Management Systems
    • CAPA processes
    • NCMR management
    • Statistical Process Control (SPC)
    • Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA)
    • Control Plans
    • 8D problem-solving methodologies
    • Statistical data analysis
  • Experience working directly with customers, suppliers, manufacturing partners, and contract manufacturers.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with high-speed communication systems, including NRZ and PAM-4 signaling technologies.
  • Understanding of SerDes architectures and equalization techniques such as FFE, DFE, and CTLE.
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools such as JMP, Minitab, Python, or similar platforms.
  • Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma certification (Green Belt or Black Belt preferred).
  • ISO9001 Internal Auditor or Lead Auditor certification.
  • Knowledge of product reliability engineering, failure mechanisms, thermal management, and reliability testing.
  • Experience with datacenter, networking, telecommunications, or AI infrastructure technologies.
  • Familiarity with semiconductor and electronic failure analysis techniques, including microscopy, electrical characterization, thermal analysis, and related diagnostic methods.
  • Willingness to travel approximately 20–30% to customer, supplier, and manufacturing locations.
