The Role: Development Surveyor – Wandsworth Mills
About the Role
As Development Surveyor, you’ll take full commercial ownership of Wandsworth Mills, a culturally significant development in Wandsworth, ensuring cost certainty, value optimisation, and superior supply chain performance throughout the project’s lifecycle. You’ll deliver within Berkeley’s high standards while collaborating closely with Technical, Construction, and Sales teams.
Your Responsibilities
Commercial Management & Reporting
- Lead the preparation, management, and reporting of project budgets, ensuring accuracy and alignment with business objectives.
- Monitor cost performance through forecasting, variance analysis, and cost benchmarking.
- Produce monthly commercial reports highlighting risks, opportunities, and key drivers.

Procurement & Supply Chain
- Manage procurement of main and trade contractors, ensuring best value while maintaining quality and programme alignment.
- Develop detailed work packages, scopes, and tender documentation in collaboration with project teams.
- Perform tender analysis, negotiations, and contract placements in line with Group governance.
Contract & Financial Control
- Administer and manage construction contracts, ensuring compliance with financial and contractual procedures.
- Oversee valuations, payments, variations, and contractual notices in a timely manner.
- Proactively manage subcontractor accounts to maximise commercial outcomes and mitigate risk.
Project Delivery & Collaboration
- Work closely with Construction teams on site instructions and financial implications.
- Partner with Technical teams to assess, price, and agree design and technical variations.
- Support Sales teams with accurate, timely costing of purchaser variations.
Value Engineering & Risk Management
- Contribute commercially to design development, buildability reviews, and value engineering exercises.
- Identify financial risks and opportunities, taking proactive measures to safeguard project performance.

Governance & Standards
- Ensure all activities align with Berkeley’s policies, procedures, and delegated authority levels.
- Champion health & safety, sustainability, quality, and customer care across all delivery aspects.
- Maintain accurate project records and documentation in line with TQM standards.
What You’ll Bring
- Relevant industry experience as a developer or main contractor, specialising in residential schemes.
- On-site experience to drive practical commercial outcomes.
- Educational or professional qualification in Quantity Surveying or a related field.
- Certification or registered status (if applicable).
