The Opportunity
Commercial Talent Solutions is recruiting a Senior Quantity Surveyor for a financially secure, privately owned civil engineering and construction group.
The position will take commercial responsibility for a £5 million civil engineering project in Barton-upon-Humber before supporting a wider pipeline of projects across Humberside, East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire.
This is a regional appointment for someone who wants long-term project continuity within the eastern patch. The contractor is actively expanding its presence across Yorkshire and the Humber, supported by major civil engineering frameworks and a growing portfolio of highways, active travel, bridge, public-realm and infrastructure schemes.
The successful candidate will join an established commercial and operational team, with the autonomy to manage their own project and the backing of an experienced regional management structure.

The employer is an established Northern contractor employing approximately 900 people across civil engineering, infrastructure, housing and construction.

- Turnover increased by 17% to £300 million+.

The business is continuing to expand across Yorkshire and the Humber after securing positions on major regional civil engineering frameworks. This provides the successful candidate with a stable pipeline and the opportunity to play an important role in developing its coverage across Humberside and Lincolnshire.
The Initial Project
The first assignment will be a £5 million highways and active-travel scheme in Barton-upon-Humber.
The Senior Quantity Surveyor will take commercial ownership of the project through construction and final account, working directly with the Project Manager, Site Agent and engineering team.
Following completion, the successful candidate will move onto further civil engineering projects across the eastern regional portfolio. The intention is to appoint someone who can become the contractor’s key commercial representative across this area.
Project-Specific Responsibilities
- Take commercial ownership of the £5 million Barton-upon-Humber scheme through construction and final account.
- Administer the project’s NEC contract, with particular responsibility for Early Warnings, Compensation Events and instructed change.
- Work closely with the site team to ensure measurement, records and cost recovery accurately reflect the work delivered.
- Manage the project’s subcontract packages and commercial reporting with support from the regional commercial management team.
- Following Barton, provide commercial leadership across further highways and infrastructure schemes in Humberside, East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire.

Candidate Requirements
- Based within practical travelling distance of Barton-upon-Humber and willing to cover projects across the wider eastern patch.
- Previous commercial experience on highways, active travel, public-realm or comparable civil engineering schemes.
- Strong working knowledge of NEC Options A and C.
- Experience acting as the lead or standalone Quantity Surveyor on a civil engineering project of a similar scale.
- Comfortable working on site for several days each week alongside the project delivery team.
