Senior Quantity Surveyor

Chichester, West Sussex (with occasional travel to Southampton)

Our Environment Business delivers end-to-end asset solutions across the UK, supporting clients including Yorkshire Water, United Utilities, Anglian Water, Thames Water, Southern Water, Welsh Water, Northumbrian Water, Affinity Water and Scottish Water. We have delivered more than £2bn of assets since AMP3 and continue to grow.

We currently operate two capital delivery frameworks for Southern Water (AMP7 and AMP8), with secured work through to 2035. Due to this expanding programme, we are looking for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our commercial team.

The role is based in the South East with flexibility to work between office, site and home. Experience with NEC contracts is essential, and experience in the water sector is an advantage.

As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will work closely with your line manager to support the commercial administration, reporting and performance of a major project or portfolio of smaller schemes. You will play a key role in cost control, contract and change management, risk mitigation and maintaining a positive cash position. You will also contribute to pre-construction activities, procurement, contract reviews and commercial governance.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a people-focused, values-driven organisation and build your career within our established and successful water business.

What you'll be doing:

  • Promoting and contributing to a safe working environment.
  • Preparing and managing subcontract documentation, including negotiating terms, prices and programmes.
  • Managing subcontract packages, including interim assessments and change control.
  • Issuing commercial notices to clients and subcontractors in line with contract requirements.
  • Managing change in accordance with the contract, including preparing Compensation Event Quotations.
  • Preparing, submitting and agreeing monthly applications for payment.
  • Working closely with operational and engineering colleagues to ensure accurate site records.
  • Producing detailed monthly reports and Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs).
  • Identifying and managing risks and opportunities to support margin improvement.
  • Managing main contract change control using the client’s CEMAR system.
  • Contributing to business targets, including cash, profit and return on capital.
  • Developing strong relationships with clients and stakeholders to support repeat business.
  • Creating and maintaining cost plans, forecasts and subcontractor liability schedules using Oracle-based systems.
  • Evaluating expenditure reports and addressing variances.
  • Attending progress and risk reduction meetings with clients and subcontractors.
  • Supporting senior leaders in the implementation of initiatives and change activities.
  • Providing commercial advice to estimating and bid teams.
  • Supporting and developing commercial team members to help them reach their potential.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
