Senior Quantity Surveyor (Freelance) – BESS Project

Location: Yorkshire (Near Leeds) – 4 Days On Site / 1 Day Remote

Contract: Freelance

Start Date: ASAP

The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join a major Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in Yorkshire. Working for a leading infrastructure contractor, you will play a key role in the commercial management of the project, with a strong emphasis on cost forecasting, cost reporting, and financial control throughout the delivery phase.

This is an urgent freelance requirement for an individual who is comfortable working closely with the project delivery team and driving commercial performance on a fast-paced energy project.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the commercial management of the project from a cost control perspective.
  • Produce accurate cost forecasts, cash flow forecasts, and cost-to-complete reports.
  • Monitor project budgets, identify risks and opportunities, and provide commercial recommendations.
  • Prepare monthly cost reports and CVRs for senior management.
  • Manage subcontractor procurement, payments, variations, and final accounts.
  • Administer contracts, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations.
  • Support the management of compensation events, change control, and commercial risk.
  • Work collaboratively with operational teams to maximise project profitability.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and key stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor on major infrastructure or energy projects.
  • Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) experience is highly desirable.
  • Substation, Transmission & Distribution, or other power infrastructure experience will also be considered.
  • Demonstrable experience producing detailed cost forecasts and managing project financial performance.
  • Strong knowledge of NEC contracts.
  • Excellent commercial acumen and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work four days per week on site near Leeds.
