SP Electricity North West manages and invests in the power network that supplies electricity to the 2.4m homes and businesses across the North West. Our 2,400 colleagues manage the 13,000km of overhead lines, 44,000km of underground cables and thousands of electricity substations to keep power flowing and supporting green growth. We’re one of six distribution network operators in the UK and are regulated by Ofgem.

We’re proud that in December 2024 we were named Utility of the Year by Utility Week magazine who said we punched above our weight and used innovation to solve some of the industry’s most difficult challenges. Come and be part of our team and make a difference.

Now part of the Iberdrola and ScottishPower group, we’re collectively building smarter, greener electricity networks that will get Britain growing by investing in a better future, quicker.

A Fantastic Opportunity: Senior Quantity Surveyor

SP Electricity North West is seeking a skilled Senior Quantity Surveyor to provide commercial and contractual expertise across the business. Working collaboratively with a wide range of colleagues and stakeholders, you will support the successful delivery and management of projects, ensuring they are managed in line with agreed contractual arrangements, obligations and business objectives.

What you'll be doing:

  • Lead the post-contract delivery of multiple projects, providing commercial assurance across a range of contract types, including NEC, JCT and bespoke frameworks.
  • Support business performance by identifying and implementing improvements in commercial contract management, including managing variations, contract changes and delivery against business objectives.
  • Work collaboratively with project managers to forecast and control project expenditure, using commercial expertise to value works and deliver efficiencies in line with agreed performance measures.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with project delivery teams, providing accurate forecasts and budget estimates to support project approvals using cost data, existing rates and recognised measurement techniques.
  • Coordinate project teams in managing costs, risks and mitigation activities, ensuring alignment with company risk management processes.
  • Visit project sites regularly to monitor progress, review costs, assess compensation events and variations, and identify early warnings. Maintain risk registers and implement effective risk mitigation strategies to support successful project delivery.
  • Partner with procurement colleagues to advise on the most appropriate contractual approach for tenders and contribute to tender evaluations, ensuring cost-effective solutions that align with business needs.
  • Lead procurement activities for non-framework projects from inception through to contract award, in line with internal governance requirements.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement, ensuring compliance with internal controls while identifying opportunities to enhance efficiency and deliver value.
  • Support, coach and develop a small team (1–3 colleagues), creating opportunities for growth and progression from apprentice through to Quantity Surveyor level.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
