Senior Quantity Surveyor

Senior Quantity Surveyor – ICP/Private Networks

Base Location: Reading or London

Salary: £50,100 – £75,100 + car/car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits for financial support, wellbeing, and family.

Working Pattern: Permanent | Full-time | Flexible First options available


About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor to lead the pre- and post-contract commercial function for SSE’s ICP/Private Networks business, ensuring alignment with strategy and budget.

Responsibilities include:

  • Providing leadership and direction on commercial matters across the business.
  • Building strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensuring a rigorous and controlled commercial environment to effectively manage risk, cost, and profitability across the project portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

Stakeholder Management

  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with Project Managers, Engineers, Legal, Procurement, and Finance teams.
  • Collaborate with external stakeholders to drive commercial success.

Contract & Commercial Management

  • Review upstream and downstream contracts, identifying key business risks and negotiating improved terms.
  • Provide contract and commercial management for projects with a total contract value (TCV) range of £2m–£80m.
  • Work closely with Project Manager(s) to lead the commercial process.

Project Governance & Reporting

  • Provide commercial accountability at Project Review Boards, actively supporting the monthly review process.
  • Monitor overall commercial position for projects, ensuring cost control and compliance with accounting regulations and best practice.

Risk & Dispute Management

  • Assist in managing problem projects, highlight trading risks, and resolve disputes.
  • Provide commercial reporting to effectively manage risk and profitability across the wider portfolio and individual projects.

Key Requirements

Experience & Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor in managing large projects (>£5m TCV).
  • Proven experience in delivering UK-based power projects.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in administering NEC contracts.
  • Strong expertise in financial control, including cost monitoring and disputes management.
  • Comprehensive understanding of dispute resolution processes.
  • A degree in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management.
