About The Role

At Balfour Beatty, we're delivering some of the UK's most significant energy infrastructure projects, helping to strengthen Scotland's electricity network and support the transition to a low-carbon future.

We're looking for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our Power T&D Commercial team, supporting the delivery of major transmission and substation projects across North and East Scotland. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in a once-in-a-generation investment programme that will help connect renewable energy to homes and businesses across the UK.

This hybrid role can be based from Maxim Park, Motherwell or Westhill, Aberdeen, with regular travel to project sites across North and East Scotland and the flexibility to work from home under our Smart Working policy.

What you'll be doing

As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you'll be a key member of the commercial team, supporting the successful delivery of large-scale infrastructure projects from inception through to completion.

You'll be responsible for commercial management, contract administration, procurement, cost control, and maximising project performance, whilst building strong relationships with clients, supply chain partners and operational teams.

This role offers the opportunity to work on complex, high-value projects whilst continuing to develop your commercial expertise, leadership capability and professional qualifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing the commercial aspects of major infrastructure projects across North and East Scotland.
  • Identifying and managing commercial risks and opportunities throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Procuring, managing and developing relationships with subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Administering client and subcontractor contracts, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations.
  • Supporting accurate forecasting, cost management and reporting activities.
  • Driving value for money whilst maintaining quality, safety and delivery objectives.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Supporting compliance with Balfour Beatty's Gated Business Lifecycle and governance processes.
  • Mentoring and developing junior members of the commercial team.
  • Supporting continuous improvement and sharing best practice across the wider business.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
