Senior Quantity Surveyor
Reports to: Operations Manager
Responsible for: Commercial Support
Job Purpose:
Responsibility for the commercial and contractual management of landscaping projects from tender stage through to final account. This includes cost planning, procurement, contract administration, valuation, risk management, and financial reporting for both soft and hard landscape works. The Senior QS will support project teams, provide commercial leadership, and ensure that all works are delivered within budget while maintaining contractual compliance.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Pre Construction
- Support for the review and assessment of all contracts proposed for engagement in relation to all works
Project Enabling
- Support all requirements for the undertaking of the operations team internal project launch meeting following successful contract award
- Support the arrangement and undertaking of external Client prestart meetings for all newly awarded projects
- Support the identification, selection and engagement of designers to fulfil all specific project requirements
- Consulted on the management and arrangement of all long lead items associated with the project requirements
- Responsible for the assessment, engagement and contractual implementation of any specialist sub-contractor requirements
- Responsible for the production of the End Day Forecast (EDF) process for submission by monthly deadline
- Support the development, implementation and periodic update of project specific programmes including formal updating of progress to Clients
- Support the review, assessment and compliance with all relevant drawings and technical specifications for all aspects of the project delivery
- Support the review of the tender information and updating of the Bill of Materials to align with all relevant project drawings, specifications and design information and updating of the project Bill of Materials to reflect actual project requirements and reviewed on a monthly basis

Project Mobilisation
- Consulted on the assessment and implementation of labour allocations and maintaining the labour matrix projected to a minimum of two weeks for all projects
- Consulted on the production and management of a materials procurement and call off schedule for all material requirements required for the project completion
- Accountable for the arrangement, preparation and undertaking of sub-contractor prestart meetings (if required)
- Responsible for the completion of cost to complete assessments and budget reviews of all projects on a monthly basis for submission by monthly deadline
Project Delivery
- Support the regular engagement with project Clients informing of all aspects of project delivery, progress and issues for resolution with a formally recorded meeting to be held at no greater than fortnightly intervals
- Responsible for the identification, collation and submission of and change requests to Clients through to formal instruction and implementation
- Responsible for the preparation, submission and Client agreement of monthly application for payments (AfP) for any projects with works completed within a reporting period
- Support the review, assessment and challenge of all costs included within project cost reports on a monthly basis
Project Hand Back
- Responsible for the preparation, negotiation and implementation of project final accounts and scheduling of retention releases

Education/Qualifications
- Degree or diploma in Quantity Surveying or related field

Experience
- 5 years' experience, with at least 3 years in landscaping or external works
Knowledge
- Strong understanding of landscaping construction, including horticulture, soil science, irrigation systems, external works, and hardscape construction methods.
- Knowledge of cashflow forecasting and cost planning
- Familiarity of pricing strategies for both soft and hard landscaping works
- Awareness of subcontract procurement and tender analysis
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to work with design teams (landscape architects, engineers), project managers, and site teams.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Good negotiation and cost-awareness
- Attention to detail and accuracy in documentation.
- Proactive, adaptable, and able to work in a fast-paced environment
- Highly organised with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks.
- Good PC skills including Microsoft Office applications and other relevant procurement software
Other Requirements
- A willingness to attend appropriate training and development, as requested.
- Willingness to travel to sites to deliver in your role.
- This role will require the post holder to hold a full UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle.
