Employment Type: Permanent

This is a strong opportunity for an experienced Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor who wants to move into long-term, nationally significant power infrastructure projects.

You will be working on major power frameworks supporting the upgrade and reinforcement of Scotland's electricity transmission network, with projects linked to leading network operators such as SSE, SSEN, ScottishPower Energy Networks and ScottishPower Transmission.

These are not short-term, isolated projects. This is part of a long-term power infrastructure programme involving substations, overhead lines, underground cabling, grid reinforcement, renewable energy connections and major civil engineering works across Scotland.

For a commercial professional with a civil engineering background, this is the kind of role that can provide genuine career stability, technical development and long-term progression in one of the fastest-growing areas of UK infrastructure.

The opportunity

As Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will take commercial responsibility across live and upcoming power infrastructure projects. You will work closely with project teams, operations, planning, engineering, procurement and the client to manage cost, risk, change, subcontractors and commercial performance.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

The company is looking for a commercially strong QS who can demonstrate full project lifecycle experience, from early-stage procurement and contract setup through to delivery, change control, final account and project close-out.

Power sector experience would be highly advantageous, but it is not essential if you have a strong civil engineering background and want to move into the power and energy sector.

Candidate Requirements

Applicants must already have the right to work in the UK. Unfortunately, visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

This role is best suited to candidates seeking a long-term, permanent career move. Due to the nature of the framework and the need for continuity across major projects, the company is prioritising commercial professionals with a steady permanent employment history.

Candidates from a freelance or short-term contract background are unlikely to be the right fit for this particular role. That is not a reflection on capability, as many freelance QS professionals are highly experienced, but this opportunity is focused on long-term team stability, project continuity and career progression within a permanent environment.

PLEASE NOTE

You must be eligible to live and work in the UK to apply for this position

If you are interested in applying for this position, please apply via this link or contact Phil via LinkedIn or by calling The Resolute Group on 01332 653 911
