Overview
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our Southern Region commercial team. This is a pivotal role within the business, offering the opportunity to take ownership of the commercial and financial management of a portfolio of civils, rail and infrastructure projects across the South East.
Reporting to the Commercial Manager, you will play a key role in driving project profitability, managing commercial risk, maintaining strong client and supply chain relationships, and supporting the development of junior commercial team members. You will be responsible for ensuring commercial best practice is applied across all stages of project delivery, from procurement and contract administration through to final account settlement.
About The Business Unit
Our business unit is fast-paced and diverse, delivering a wide range of civil engineering projects across sectors including rail (bridges, embankments, stations, platforms and tunnels), aviation infrastructure, Environment Agency schemes and Local Authority frameworks.
We deliver both standalone tendered projects and long-term framework agreements for key clients throughout the South East. Typical projects include bridge reconstruction and replacement, station enhancement works, accessibility improvements, structural refurbishments, aviation civils infrastructure and major multidisciplinary civil engineering schemes.
The Role
As a Senior Quantity Surveyor within the Southern Commercial team, your responsibilities will include:
- Taking commercial responsibility for multiple projects, ensuring successful financial and contractual outcomes
- Leading the preparation and submission of applications for payment, variations, compensation events and final accounts
- Producing accurate monthly Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs), forecasts, cash flows and commercial reports
- Providing proactive commercial support to operational teams to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time and within budget
- Identifying, managing and mitigating commercial risks and opportunities throughout the project lifecycle
- Managing subcontract procurement, negotiations, contract placement and final account settlements
- Administering NEC and bespoke forms of contract, ensuring contractual compliance and entitlement recovery
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors and supply chain partners
- Leading commercial negotiations with clients and stakeholders
- Ensuring contractual notices, reporting requirements and submissions are completed accurately and on time
- Supporting tendering and estimating activities where required
- Mentoring, coaching and developing Quantity Surveyors, Assistant Quantity Surveyors and Trainee Quantity Surveyors
- Working closely with the Commercial Manager to support business objectives, project performance and continuous improvement initiatives
- Contributing to the identification and implementation of commercial best practice across the business

Requirements
To succeed in this role, you will bring:
- Proven experience operating as a Senior Quantity Surveyor within a civil engineering, rail or infrastructure contracting environment
- A degree or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related discipline
- Strong experience managing the full commercial lifecycle of complex infrastructure projects
- Excellent knowledge of NEC contracts and associated commercial processes
- Experience in managing subcontract procurement, commercial negotiations and final accounts
- Strong financial reporting, forecasting and cost management skills
- The ability to identify and mitigate commercial risks while maximising project opportunities
- Experience leading, coaching and supporting junior commercial team members
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management and negotiation skills
- A proactive and collaborative approach with a strong focus on delivering successful project outcomes
