Senior Quantity Surveyor (CI&U - PMCM)
Job Description: Quantity Surveyor or Cost & Commercial Manager (Civil Infrastructure and Utilities)
About the Role

You will play a pivotal role in pre- and post-contract Quantity Surveying (QS) or Cost & Commercial Management services, providing services such as:
- Estimating
- Cost planning
- Procurement
- Cost assurance
- Post-contract financial/commercial management
Your responsibilities will depend on your seniority and experience, and may include:
- Delivering QS/commercial projects
- Leading a QS/commercial team
- Training and mentoring staff
- Writing bids
- Winning work
- Providing people leadership and management
- Representing WSP UK at industry events
YOUR TEAM
You will join a diverse, growing team of Quantity Surveyors, Cost Managers, Commercial Managers, and other related professionals working across multiple sectors.
You will be part of our Project Management and Commercial Management Team (PMCM)—a group of approximately 400 colleagues spread across the UK.
The PMCM Team provides services such as:
- Quantity Surveying/Cost and Commercial Management
- Programme and Project Management
- Project Controls
These services support Building and Infrastructure projects for both public and private clients.
Within this team, you will be part of one of our four groups:
- Civil Infrastructure and Utilities (your potential placement)
- Property and Buildings
- Programme Solutions
- Rail
You will be based in The Mailbox, Birmingham City Centre, with opportunities to work on iconic programmes and projects, as well as grow within a global company with a vast network of talent.
Requirements
Essential
- Holding or working towards a MRICS, Assoc RICS, or equivalent professional qualification
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated applicable QS/Cost and Commercial competencies recognised by relevant professional institutions
- (Where applicable) Management, project leadership, and delivery experience at a senior level

Desirable
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a keen attention to detail
- An adaptable and flexible approach to workload management
- Alternative relevant professional qualifications or experience (e.g., CICES, AcostE)
- Quantity Surveying or Cost and Commercial Management experience specifically in:
- The public sector
- Heavy industry projects
- Ability to travel to sites, client offices, WSP locations, or project sites as required
- Passion to make a difference and willingness to be part of a dynamic team
- A degree or equivalent higher education qualification
- Proven organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Willingness to challenge the status quo, introduce innovative solutions, and learn from past experiences
- Familiarity or working knowledge of specialist software, such as:
- CostX
- CEMAR
- Experience or knowledge of NEC Contracts and other industry-standard contract forms
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders
- Previous experience in a QS/Cost and Commercial Management role at a consultant, contractor, or client organisation, particularly in:
- Water
- Energy
- Environment
- Infrastructure
- Transportation
