Quantity Surveyor / Cost & Commercial Management Professional – Birmingham

About the Role

You will play a pivotal role in delivering pre- and post-contract Quantity Surveying (QS) or Cost & Commercial Management services for our clients, covering:

  • Estimating
  • Cost planning
  • Procurement
  • Cost assurance
  • Post-contract financial/commercial management

Based on your seniority and experience, your responsibilities could include:

  • Delivering QS/commercial projects
  • Leading a QS/commercial team
  • Training and mentoring staff
  • Bid writing and winning new work
  • People leadership and management
  • Representing WSP UK at industry events

Your Team

Join a diverse and growing team of Quantity Surveyors, Cost Managers, and Commercial Managers across multiple sectors. You’ll be part of our Project Management and Commercial Management Team (PMCM), comprising ~400 colleagues across the UK.

Your key group will be Civil Infrastructure and Utilities (other groups include Property & Buildings, Programme Solutions, and Rail).

You will be based in The Mailbox, Birmingham City Centre.

Requirements

Essential

  • MRICS, Assoc RICS, or working towards a professional qualification.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge/experience in QS/Cost and Commercial competencies (aligned with RICS or equivalent).
  • Senior management, project leadership, and delivery experience (where applicable).

Desirable

  • Analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.

  • Adaptable and flexible workflow management.

  • Alternative relevant professional qualification (e.g., CICES, AcostE).

  • Public or heavy industry sector experience (or similar).

  • Ability to travel (client site, project office, WSP locations).

  • Driven by purpose – desire to innovate and challenge status quo.

  • Familiarity with software like CostX, CEMAR, and NEC Contracts.

  • Experience in cross-departmental collaboration.

  • Prior experience in QS/Cost & Commercial roles (consultant, contractor, or client sector) – niche focus on:

    • Water
    • Energy
    • Environment
    • Infrastructure
    • Transportation
