The Opportunity

An established and growing civil engineering and infrastructure contractor is seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join its commercial team.

This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in the commercial delivery of a diverse portfolio of civils and infrastructure projects valued up to £20m. The successful candidate will work closely with operational teams, clients, subcontractors and senior management to maximise project value, manage commercial risk and ensure successful project outcomes.

The role offers exposure to a broad range of projects including highways, drainage, groundworks, concrete structures, Section 278 works and associated infrastructure schemes.

The Role

As Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for:

  • Managing commercial and contractual aspects of projects from pre-construction through to final account.
  • Producing accurate cost reports, forecasts and cashflow projections.
  • Procuring, managing and administering subcontract packages.
  • Managing change control, variations and compensation events.
  • Ensuring compliance with commercial procedures and reporting requirements.
  • Supporting operational teams to maximise profitability and minimise commercial risk.
  • Negotiating and agreeing final accounts with clients and subcontractors.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, supply chain partners and internal stakeholders.
  • Supporting and mentoring Assistant and Graduate Quantity Surveyors.
  • Contributing to budget development, procurement strategies and commercial planning.

About You

To be considered, you should have:

  • Degree-qualified in Quantity Surveying or equivalent experience.
  • Strong commercial experience within civil engineering, infrastructure or highways projects.
  • Experience managing projects valued up to £20m.
  • Excellent knowledge of NEC, JCT and other standard forms of contract.
  • Strong understanding of cost reporting, forecasting and commercial management.
  • Experience procuring and managing subcontractors.
  • Excellent negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong knowledge of methods of measurement including CESMM and highways-related frameworks.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Professional membership with RICS, CICES, ICE or similar is desirable but not essential.
