Senior Quantity Surveyor – Derby
Senior Quantity Surveyor (6-Month Contract)
Location: Derby | Working Arrangement: Hybrid Working
FJA are recruiting on behalf of a leading national service provider within the Water and Wastewater sector for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team on a 6-month contract.
This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to high-profile, essential infrastructure projects while working for a forward-thinking and well-established contractor.
Opportunity
Based in Derby, with flexible hybrid working, you will play a key role in the commercial management of one or more projects. Reporting directly to the Managing Quantity Surveyor, you’ll take ownership of:
- Cost control
- Contract administration
- Commercial performance
- Support and mentoring of junior team members

Key Responsibilities
- Lead quantity surveying activities across allocated projects and work packages
- Collaborate closely with design, construction, and supply chain teams to manage and control costs
- Build and maintain strong client relationships, ensuring commercial and business requirements are met
- Administer main contracts, ensuring all notices and correspondence are issued accurately and on time
- Prepare and issue subcontract documentation and manage subcontractor performance
- Oversee payment applications and support agreement of final accounts
- Produce accurate:
- Cost reports
- Budgets
- Forecasts
- Value assessments
- Support the development and mentoring of junior commercial staff
- Maintain continuous professional development through industry engagement and networking
- Promote a positive, solution-focused culture with open and constructive communication
- Ensure confidentiality and discretion across all commercial matters

About You
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline
- Working towards or holding chartered status with a recognised professional body (e.g., MRICS, CCAB-qualified)
- Proven experience within utilities, civil engineering, or MEICA environments
- Strong working knowledge of NEC4 contracts
- Confident communicator with a proactive and collaborative approach
